Summary
Giulia is still gripping my hand when we step through the doors of a bistro and I see them. They both look older, softer, slightly faded, as if they’ve gone out of focus from when I last saw them; Mamma’s laughter is less bright, Mario’s smile a bit tighter, their movements a bit slower and more restrained. When they catch sight of me, they both freeze for a moment, and I pause a step or two away, unsure of myself. But then Mamma slips off her bar stool and seizes me, pulling me to herself and holding me so tightly I can barely breathe.
A fix-it AU sequel to the ceremony of innocence is drowned.
Very loosely inspired by the infamous 2004 Latvian National Opera production, in which Tosca and Scarpia once were married to each other, and Scarpia clearly regrets the divorce. Only taken a step further, because this imagines that Tosca and Scarpia have a kid from their ill-advised marriage.
