Robert lets out a sigh. It's the type of sigh that should come from a man far older than him. He'd put this imaginary man in maybe his late forties, his black hair peppered with strands of white and grey. Maybe this man is tired because he works a blue collar job and he's carrying the weight of his family on his back, or maybe he goes home every night to a dark and lonely apartment just like Robert does. Wherever this man is he's probably sighing just like he did a moment ago. He probably has the same aching muscles that Robert does, only his were likely earned from working at a tire shop or some other civilian shit like that.
And then there's Robert. Tied up, bloodied and beaten. All in his own home.
"What more is there to tell?" Robert laughs a little, letting his bruised cheek rest against the wet floor. "He wasn't really around enough to be terrible." He mumbles. "...And I know what you're about to say, no, I was not neglected. I had everything I wanted." A few feet away, Beef is napping peacefully. The traitor.
"I—I was actually about to call you a little bitch but sure, let's— let's go with that."

Summary
After his first shift turns into a disaster, Robert tries to help Waterboy gain some much-needed confidence. It works great until it doesn’t, and Robert is left reeling, not entirely sure what it is he did wrong and why the guy he thought he got along with can’t even look him in the eye anymore. They do sort things out eventually, although they need a little outside help.
aka Waterboy isn’t sure he can work with a guy if he’s constantly dreaming about climbing inside his chest and licking his organs, and Robert worries about the ethics of employing someone he’s clearly developing a crush on.

Robert Robertson III intended- begrudgingly- to take up the life his father left behind. The old cruising trawler, The Astral, had been handed down from grandfather to father to son, a rusted heirloom with more ghosts than fresh paint. Now it was Robert’s turn to haul it back into the sea, whether he liked it or not.
But even he had to admit he couldn’t run the damn thing alone. The only man he would want to work with had already settled into retirement. Still, necessity outweighed pride, so he posted a call for a deckhand.
Only one soul answered.
Herman, tall, trembling, wide-eyed Herman, showed up looking like he might bolt if someone sneezed too loudly. But he was willing, he was young, and more importantly… he was the only applicant.
So, by the simple law of desperation, the job was his. Robert didn’t mention how his father used to say the sea knew their family by name. Or how something out there had been circling the boat since the day the old man died.
Something that still hadn’t gone away.

Picking Waterboy over Phenomaman was easy, all things considered. Although Phenomaman was stronger, and had a better(?) reputation, and experience compared to Waterboy, the younger man had the eagerness and the willingness to try. Robert was convinced that Phenomaman had given up in that department. Blonde Blazer seemed relieved- if not a little apprehensive at first, setting the file down and looking to Robert.
“Can I ask why? I mean, I’m not upset or doubting your choices, but…”
“I think that Waterboy has the… temperament of a hero. He just needs that chance, ya know?” Robert leaned back in his chair, “I know that the Z-Team might give him shit, but everyone else got a second chance, why not give him a first?”
What is the only romantic option was Waterboy? What if Waterboy is a little bit of a stalker? This is my take on what would've happened if I had been in the writing room. Every romance option would've been Waterboy.

(not that they actually do anything seeing as no keyhole can possibly fit a three foot key, but hey its the thought that counts) And if you do a really good job you get into the real perks of being famous, thousands of internet strangers who hang onto your every move merchandise, and if you're really lucky advertising and all the money that comes with it.
If you're aware of it that is.
OR I make sure that there are consequences to being a superhero in the 21st century and all the internet fame and fallout that would come with it.
