“I always thought you hated me,” Max says suddenly.
Charles doesn’t answer right away. His stride falters like the words caught him off guard. “I thought you didn’t care what people thought of you,” he says eventually, his voice measured.
“I don’t,” Max replies, too fast, too defensive. Then he hesitates. “But you—” His fingers twitch at his sides, restless. He stops himself, irritated.
Charles turns to him fully now, brow furrowed. “But I what?”
Max clenches his jaw. He doesn’t want to say it. He doesn’t want to admit it—but you knew me. You understood me better than anyone else. And you still couldn't like me.
So instead, he shrugs. “Doesn’t matter.”

Or, Charles has spent all his childhood trying to prove he isn't like Max. Building a car together makes him realize he might've been wrong all along.

Oscar doesn’t remember faces. Anyone’s. He doesn’t remember when it started. Maybe it had always been like this. He vaguely recalls crying in his mother’s arms, asking if it was normal. He remembers doctors asking if he just saw blurry shapes instead of faces, but he couldn’t answer. Because he didn’t see that. But he didn’t see anything either.
Lando is afraid of life as an adult. Life in society. Life outside the hospital walls, where he spent the last five years. It’s like he’s starting over, like someone split him off from his old life. Like he died in the hospital and was resurrected the moment he left.

Max has always been a protector, it’s just who he is.
Ever since he was five years old and his mother placed a bundle of blankets in his arms with his tiny baby brother nestled inside, Max knew, deep down in a place no one could ever reach, that he was never going to let anything, or anyone, hurt him.
And he didn’t.
He stopped Lando from walking face-first into furniture when he first started toddling around. He hugged him close when nightmares clawed their way into his dreams. He checked under the bed for monsters and made-up silly voices in stories until Lando’s giggles filled the room like sunlight. That was their world, small, safe, full of warmth and laughter.
Then the world ended.

When the world ended Max didn’t have much time for anyone else, he was to busy keeping his little brother Lando alive. But when they find safety and a boy, Charles, comes along Max learns how to let someone in for the first time in years. Through the destruction of there world they learn to lean on each and that trust sometimes creates a bond that goes beyond words, it’s one that can only be built from ruin.*prequel to ashes and blood*

Summary
As a bisexual, Lando wasn’t blind to the Dutchman’s defined angles- that jawline? Sharp enough to cut diamonds. Those eyes? Ethereal. If Professor M. E. Verstappen had any game whatsoever, Lando was sure that he’d be an absolute menace.
The thing was, Professor Verstappen seemed to be hell-bent on homewrecking Lando's thesis advisor's marriage. Professor Leclerc was a precious baby angel who had to be protected at all costs. As a good mentee, Lando couldn't allow Charles to be seduced by the Dutch menace. Charles talked about his husband Max way too much for Lando to allow this to happen. He had to save Charles from the hot but rizzless engineering professor at all costs. Lando can't bear the thought of Charles being swept away from his doting, loving, and probably insanely hot Formula 1 engineer husband by a guy who probably gets off on history quiz nights.
All Oscar can say by the end of it all is that Lando really should've added Charles on Facebook before meddling- but Lando's shenanigans do make for great entertainment.

“I’m difficult,” Max repeats. Sebastian strokes the back of his head, running his hand through his messy, ash-blond hair.
“Do you think I was easy? Being a teenager is tough—you go through so many changes. It’s a hard time.”
“But you’re such a good dad—it’s unfair.” Seb’s heart aches as he feels Max’s warm tears soaking into his shirt. He keeps stroking Max’s hair.
“Oh but, Liebling!” He slowly rocks his son back and forth. “It’s not unfair at all! I love being a dad. I love being your dad! Sure, being a father is hard sometimes, but I’m living life for the first time too, just like you are. We’re figuring it all out together.”
It seems like Max nods, but maybe it’s just because he’s started sobbing even harder.or, Life has been hard on Max and Charles, but now they have each other, maybe things will become better?

Summary
Most of the challenges that Ted Lasso encounters when he begins coaching at AFC Richmond were more or less what he expected: still not really understanding soccer, people getting upset when he says things like 'soccer,' etc. He's got a whole new team full of players to get to know, who've all got their own stuff going on.
The part he didn't see coming is the kid he meets on his first day. Ted quickly learns a few things: his name is Jamie, he's fifteen years old, and he's the part-time groundskeeper's assistant at Nelson Road. The more time Ted spends with him, the more he learns about where Jamie fits into the Richmond ecosystem, and the more concerns he develops about just what, exactly, is going on in the kid's life outside of this building.
It's going to take Ted's determination and patience, an unlikely main ally in Roy Kent, the entire Richmond community, and Jamie's own willingness to be brave enough to let someone help him to stop Jamie from drowning. Then maybe, just maybe, they can bring him safe onto dry land.
(AU that follows the events of the three seasons of the show, with one major difference. completely gen, no ships.)

In fact, you might as well go ahead and call him Avicii, 'cause he's starting to wish he could just fall asleep and wait for some kind stranger to wake him up when it's all over. But he doesn't quit on things, so instead of doing that, he's moving to Richmond—the one in the U.K, not Kansas, because that would sorta defeat the whole purpose, wouldn't it—and hoping that clean slates really are all they're cracked up to be. That's it. A clean slate, and then he'll channel his inner Dorothy and return to Kansas a changed man.
But Ted ain't expecting Trent Crimm, the Independent, and his son Colin. Or Keeley Jones and her insistent, cute-as-a-button pursuit of friendship. Or the enigmatic Rebecca Welton, with her impeccable outfits and biting wit and intense doppio espressos.
Or, maybe most especially, Roy Kent and his little brother Jamie and the way their baggage just matches right up with his own.
