There were two guards sitting just inside the door of the Cafe across the area. He could make out their rather unkempt uniforms and plain iron swords.
“— it’s been locked up for now. James said he’d do the ritual at midnight; that’s when all the travelers will be asleep or out of town.” The heavier soldier groaned.
Wilbur blinked, curiosity peaked. Only interesting things came from a statement like that.

“Alright, how about you two wind down and put on some tv. It's been a long morning for all of us,” Techno grumbles, going off into the kitchen.
Wilbur watches him go, the two of them not moving towards the couch. Tommy, for one, is still recovering from whatever weird mind tricks Wilbur just played on him, practically trembling in his goddamn arms like a scared dog.
Wilbur, like the smug bastard he is, indulges Tommy, holding him close, gently stroking his hair, letting him hide his face away in his chest.
Or Tommy dies and comes back as a Reaper to serve Phil. Wilbur and Techno are not very happy about that.

He shook his head furiously, choked sobs forcing their way out of his mouth as he shuffled backwards, hands scrabbling on the gravel and cutting into his palms. He didn’t notice the pain, too hopped up on adrenaline and fear to recognise it.
Without his permission, a chirp managed to escape, almost masked by his cries and incomprehensible pleading.
Almost masked.
Zephyrus paused in his approach, tensing at the sound and staring at Tommy, straightening up to his full height.
Tommy’s breathing became more frantic with the realisation that the man had heard. He knew now. That wasn’t good, that wasn’t safe. They were going to hurt him, they were going to kill him, Tommy didn’t want to die.
A coo reached his ears, the sound dancing on the wind. Safe-calm-protected.

Tommy is an avian hybrid training to be a hero. A wrench is thrown into his plans when he meets the Syndicate leader Zephyrus, and for some reason, his instincts seem to adore him. The feeling is mutual, so now Tommy has to try and live life while yearning for a family of supervillains that are actively trying to kidnap him.

Panic settles in as Tommy can do nothing but hopelessly scramble up the incline, terrified glances looking back as the Sith– this has to be a Sith Lord, there is no fucking chance this is a Jedi– flies up the incline with effortless ease.

There’s a wall before him, and the dragonet stutters to a halt. It’s a giant thing, towering over him as he cranes his neck back all the way, uncomfortable by the sheer height of it.
Something his pursuer would have no issue climbing over once they follow his scent, the little dragonet holding back tears as he realises he’s been upwind this entire time.
With a sniffle, the first tears drop.
With the sniffle, he smells it, thick and layered in the air, having been rooted here for times long before the little creature had clawed through the shell of his egg.

Technoblade is a Protector. That means it was his job to take down the hunters that caused the Mer colonies to live in fear. A difficult but necessary job that he did with enthusiasm. A week after he kills the lead hunter, Dream, he finally get's around to checking out the Hunter Compound. What he finds there will change his life forever.
Tommy has been in his tank for as long as he can remember. He likes his tank. He has rocks and toys and friend fish and food fish too. Dream even got him a crab at one point. But the crab was mean and it pinched him so Dream took the crab away. There's plants that he can snuggle with and holes in the rocks for him to sleep in. Tommy has always lived in his tank. It's all he knows.
But then Dream doesn't come back one day.

Or: My take on a DSMP Mer AU without it being Dark. Techno is basically a 20 year old who found a toddler and went, "Mine now!" But then remembered he doesn't know how babies work and then has a minor panic attack about it and resolves to be the Best Dad Ever™. First he just has to earn the trust of a literally baby who doesn't even know he was being kept as a pet by evil hunters. -

“Because,” Tommy grumbles, sitting up, eyeing Techno carefully, “Appearances and shit, I dunno, Wilbur’s reasons are stupid.” He says, watching as Techno starts to try and preen his feathers.
His instincts rear up in the back of his head, and he pulls his wing away jerkily, moving to a crouching position. Techno lets his wing go without a fight, watching as the golden feathers disappear from his hands.
