“I need you to marry me.”
To escape a bureaucratic shitstorm brought on by his less-than-complete onboarding paperwork, Aventurine comes to Ratio with a proposal: stay married for a period of two years, then get an easy, quickie divorce once Aventurine's residency status is secure.
Only, it's not enough for them to simply get married; the marriage has to look legitimate too. Which is fine. Aventurine can act the part. Except, he's not really acting. Not anymore. And this last-minute trip to visit Ratio's family in Bumfuck Nowhere, Veritas Prime as Ratio's newly minted fiancé is threatening to prove it.

Heavens, Kakavasha might be inclined to go as far as to say this owl is judging him. Which is— well, it’s not the kind of gratitude he’d usually hope for. Though, an argument could be made that Kakavasha is the one talking to a bird.

Their hairs on the back of Veritas' neck stood up in alarm as he froze. That's what's off. At least that nagging feeling in his head was now satiated, only to be replaced by unease. How did this person get in? And how did Veritas fail to see them? Sure, his office had enough space for a coffee table and a couple of armchairs but it wasn't all that big. Another thing that came to mind was that this was no student of his; students don't address him with the "doctor" prefix.
Without waiting for an answer, the voice continued, "All the same, I am a big fan of your work."
In a world where superheroes have been outlawed, an ex-villain tries to seek another out for some... enrichment, only to find themselves wrangling with the intricacies of their professional lives, celebrity statuses, and all the feelings in between. Really, who has time for villainy when there's so much going on?

Feeling like a schoolgirl about to be lectured, Sunday dragged her eyes up from the relatively safe vicinity of Ratio's arms and chest (oh, who was she kidding, there was nothing safe about that) to meet his rose-hued eyes with trepidation. Ratio gazed at her with an odd sort of intense yet benign interest, not unlike his usual scholarly mien, but she could feel the energy rolling off him. He was clearly enjoying this.
"I'll make it easy for you," Ratio began again, that familiar patronizing tone curling into his voice. "Lift your skirt so I may examine you."
Sunday limps back onto the Astral Express late one night after an unexpected rendezvous with the Stellaron Hunters leaves her bruised, tattered, and exceptionally well-fucked.
Unfortunately, one Dr. Veritas Ratio has been visiting the Express and is still awake to intercept her attempt to sneak through the party car. A misunderstanding leads to Sunday allowing the doctor to examine her injuries, only for it to become obvious to both of them that, for all her shame, Sunday still inexplicably aches to be touched.
Naturally, Ratio has a solution.
