Summary
Buck was happy. He was. Sure, Chris was gone, taking his heart to Texas with him. Eddie was having a hard time every day getting out of bed or eating, breaking Buck’s heart. Of course, working under Gerrard made his stomach twist until bile filled his throat. Even with all that, Buck was happy. He could swear to it. You know, if anyone asked.
--OR--Buck thinks he's happy, but he's not. Buck is with Tommy, then he's not. Buck realizes he is in love with Eddie; then, the earth tries to swallow them whole. Buck wakes up in the hospital, and he is happy.

Summary
“It’s just a storm,” he tried to assure himself, though another snap of bright light shattering the air had his heart rabbiting in his chest, making him think of rain and ladders and things he'd rather forget.
Eddie probably hadn't noticed the storm, sleeping through it instead. He wasn’t defective like Buck. All turned around and backward over some inconsequential thing.
The rain beating on the windows made his skin itch, though, making his mind think of the cold, then of colder things like dead things. He had been dead not that long ago, for three minutes—or, according to Eddie, three minutes and seventeen seconds.
Those extra seconds had seemed painfully important to Eddie, enough to make sure it was known at the table, and Buck hadn’t been sure what to make of that—leaving him to wonder what they meant to him.
--or--
Buck isn't doing as okay as he pretends. The lightning strike, his heart stopping, the coma--it's eating him alive, and he's afraid to reach out for help, but Eddie isn't about to let him suffer this alone, whether he likes it or not, and the passing storm might just be what they need to confess some things they've been afraid to admit

Summary
When Buck buys a Powerball lottery ticket he doesn't think much beyond his need for change to air up his tire. He forgets all about the ticket until word spreads that the winning ticket was sold in LA and hasn't been claimed yet and pretty much dismisses it. After all, there's no way he won the lottery.
Turns out no, he really did win the Powerball, to the tune of 295 million dollars and just in time for Christmas. He's going to make sure the 118 has the best Christmas of their lives. And just maybe he'll have a good one too.

“Didn’t know you were seeing someone.”
Buck just laughs. Like, honest to god giggles. Eddie is stuck fighting off doubly massive waves of butterflies and confusion, all while Buck just gazes down at him.
“That’s cute,” he hears Buck mumble, just before climbing into the truck, calling Eddie after him.

Summary
"Eddie?" The blond mumbles, staring at the ground. Beside him, his best friend makes a questioning hum. Buck doesn't meet his eyes, feeling his heart begin to pound again.
When he doesn't say anything else, Eddie knocks his shoulder against Buck's. "What's up?" He prompts, unaware.
Buck swallows, and then finally says, "I tried to kill myself last night."
(Or, Buck's been struggling for a long time, and he finally breaks.)

Summary
Buck coughed back to consciousness, choking on the dust and debris that hung thick in the air. The motion jarred his right side; the side he was laying on, the side he’d landed on, and even as the winded pain forced him to curl in on himself until the coughs subsided, the only thought on his mind was Eddie.

“Are you and Dad fighting again?”
Buck blinks at the question, their happy hangout shifting the moment Eddie leaves the room. “Um, what? No, we’re not fighting. What made you think that?”
“I overheard my dad say something on the phone last night… I got scared you were gonna go away again.”

Summary
“Wait,” Will said in a harsh, croaky voice. He felt like his brain was dribbling out of his ears and he fell onto the couch with a small poof of air as he stared at Mike in such a hard daze that it was a wonder he didn’t pass out again. “I - what do you - “
They stared at each other.
The air was thick and suddenly it was like Will could taste ozone at the back of his tongue, like electricity was coating his mouth and didn’t leave any room to breathe, to think, and his voice was wobbly, uncertain, as he said, “what do you mean… other boys?”
***
Will tells everybody about his Tammy.
Mike, of course, reacts in a totally normal way.

Summary
So, here he was, at two in the morning, stretched out on the couch and trying to find patterns in the speckled ceiling without much luck while his brain went into overdrive.
And what really sucked? Is that there weren’t a whole lot of places Buck would rather be right now.
Only one, really.
Buck's been sleeping on Eddie's couch pretty often, and honestly? He really, really just wants to stay.

“My dads,” Christopher mumbles in his sleep. “Are getting married.”
Eddie clears his throat. From the corner of his eye, he can see Buck’s knuckles tighten on the steering wheel.
“I’m not a flower girl!” Christopher continues, annoyed. “I have no flowers.”
“Maybe we should wake him?” Buck suggests. “He seems, um. Distressed.”
Or, Christopher sleep talks. Buck and Eddie get a front row seat to his dream.

Summary
“Are you doing alright?” Eddie asks him with a slight frown and Buck swallows, going back to tying his shoes so he doesn’t have to look at Eddie.
“Of course,” he says simply. “Why wouldn’t I be?”
“I don’t know,” Eddie replies and Buck can feel his eyes on him. “You’ve been quiet lately.”
Buck freezes in his movements for a fraction of a second. He thought that apart from the whole dinner at Bobby’s fiasco he’s been doing a pretty good job at acting like his normal self in front of everyone.
And how has Eddie of all people noticed that something is up with him? It’s not like he pays him any attention anymore.

Summary
“Most babies are born as accidents,” She says suddenly, like she’s decided that Buck has passed, that she can trust him with this.
Buck doesn’t really have an answer because that question hits way to fucking close to home. A year or so ago he would have said, yes, I was an accident, so I know how that goes, but Buck knows better now. Knows that he would almost give anything for that answer to still be yes. Evie’s finger works under the seal to rip it open, a stack of important looking papers dumping out onto the table in front of her.
“Not me,” she says without looking up as she organizes them into a neat stack, “I was engineered.”
And.
And Buck’s pretty fucking sure a giant, cataclysmic hole has ripped right open, dragging him down to the earth’s core where he vaporizes into dust.
{or Buck meets another savior baby and everything comes crashing down}

Summary
Will had always thought that if something important happened, he would know.
There would be some shift in the atmosphere, a feeling charged and electric. Like the way the air goes tight before a storm, how the ocean pulls back before crashing forward, devastating and brutal. Like the way his fingers and chest hum as he can feel a song coming together inside him.
Something unmistakable. Something notable, at the very least.
Falling apart is easy; falling back together again is hard. With music and films telling the true feelings behind their pain, Will and Mike navigate what it means to fall in love too young, and how finding your way back together again can shape art and your life.
-
A fame au with Will loosely based on Conan Gray as he navigates the writing of Wishbone, the album, and Mike as an actor who is dumb and pining.Bookmarked by Oreopanda

There’s mud on his hands. There’s mud on his hands and he has to dig deeper, quicker, because Eddie is forty feet beneath him and surely he can’t breathe because the well is gone and Eddie is gone and Buck can’t follow him.
“Eddie,” his throat feels raw, the words wrong to his ears, “Eddie.”
“Yeah,” Eddie says, holding onto him, “I'm right here, Buck, I’m right here.”
“I can’t—” Buck breaks off, his trembling, dirty hand in the air and Eddie must understand because he takes Buck's hand without question and pulls it to his chest, right over his heart.

“Chim. Weird question?”
Chimney’s chair creaks. Buck cranes his head over the back of the couch and watches him straighten up, pop his back, close the folder.
“You only ever ask me weird questions,” he says, and then crosses the loft to sit in one of the armchairs. He levels Buck with a look that’s way too knowing for the amount of words they’ve exchanged. “What’s up?”
He takes a breath.
“What does it feel like to be a dad?”
in which buck is used to wanting things he's not allowed to have; it's just that he never thought being a father would be one of them.

Summary
Buck doesn’t think that if he were to say, “I’m in a bad place”, that anyone would turn him away. Really, he doesn’t. The 118 has too many good, kind people for that.
But every time he wants to open his mouth, to say something, to reach out to Eddie or Bobby or Hen or Chim, he hears Eddie yelling, “you’re exhausting.”
—you’re exhausting, you’re exhausting, you’re exhausting—
So each day he does his job and he laughs and he jokes and he pretends he’s the care-free goofball he’s always been. And each day he packs away his bruises and his worries, takes them home to his empty loft with its quiet rooms, and licks his wounds in silence.
