Summary

Under orders from Mori, Chuuya ships out west, leaving Kyouka in the hands of her mentor. He didn't expect to come back to what he did.

"You're leaving?" a small voice asks. Chuuya pauses in his bickering to glance at Kyouka. If possible, she has lost even more colour and her eyes were wide.
"Yeah," he says in a rush of air after a pause. Her stricken look deepens. "I'll be back. Missions like this don't normally take longer than a couple of months. Maybe a year, at most."
Kyouka nods, the movement almost imperceptible.
"Hey, you'll be okay. Kouyou will be here with you," he points out, reaching out to gently tug on a pigtail. She doesn’t move to bat him away, her eyes downcast. She retracts her hands, hiding them in her lap.

Summary

Was it supposed to be a joke? Kaoru couldn’t hear anything over his heart and blood rushing through his ears.
Langa’s hands were clutched over ADAM’s arm, desperately trying to relieve the pressure on his windpipe. The rowdy groups who had previously crowded around were skittering back into the shadows, unsure what to expect.
Reki had just stared for a moment. Then, he shouted Langa’s name and made a jerky, half-step toward them-
Bang.

ADAM's refusal to lose the race against Langa leaves Kojiro caught in the crossfire. Kaoru has to pick up the pieces himself this time, and finds that something has started to change between him and his friend along the way.

Kojiro lunged forward and reached out. ”Kaoru-!!”
But it wasn’t Kaoru… just one of his fans.
Kojiro just stood there for a moment, staring, then took a deep, shaky breath.
"Joe?"
“Are you alright?”
“I’m sorry, I… I need to go,” Kojiro said before all but running back to his motorcycle and driving home.
Or: Kojiro mysteriously starts having nightmares after Kaoru recovers from Adam's attack and moves back to his own house. He handles it VERY well...
