Shane blinked. His mind was screaming at him. What was happening? This wasn’t what they did, they didn’t wash each other’s hair or care about each other’s injuries. They fucked, and then they went home. He should say no, should tell Rozanov to buzz off and leave him to suffer, but the words wouldn’t come out. Eventually, he just nodded.

But underlying it all was the knowledge that they’d end the night in each other’s arms. Shane refused to admit it, but that might have been part of the reason he was so determined not to get sick. If it was any other game, any other team… It had been four months since he’d seen Rozanov. Four months of convincing himself he would finally end it, while simultaneously counting down the days until they would see each other again-- until this game. The door beside her opened suddenly with a creak, startling her. Dammon was standing in the doorway, face flustered and eyes wide, deep dark circles under them. He beamed like she had never seen him do before. “You’re alive.”
Tav scrambled to her feet and closed the distance between them, not resisting the urge to wrap her arms around his waist, pulling the tiefling into a hug.
“Hi,” she said against his shoulder. He smelled of smoke and sweat and cinnamon, and Tav nuzzled into his shirt, breathing deeply. His arms enveloped her in return, one hand firmly on the small of her back and the other rising to hold her head against him, fingers deep in her hair. He was so warm, almost like Karlach had been, but touching him didn’t burn – it just felt like coming home.Tav goes to the forge to tell Dammon about Karlach’s fate after defeating the Netherbrain. He confesses he has feelings for her and they set a dinner date.

Tav is a busy resident physician with no time for romance, until a chance encounter involving her best friend Karlach throws Dammon, a cardiology fellow with a heart of gold (heh), into her life.
The medicine AU that no one asked for and but you're getting anyway, simply because I had to make Dammon into a cardiologist.
See end notes of each chapter for a glossary of medical terms! I tried to balance writing the characters authentically with minimizing medical jargon–so there’s still some, but less so in the later chapters.

Tav is eyeing Halsin suspiciously from the opposite end of Art’s bedside, where he’s been keeping watch over the sick man for days. At least, Halsin thinks it’s been days– perhaps three (or maybe four?) at the most. It is difficult to keep track in the Shadowlands.
At any rate, he cannot answer her immediately, which means his answer is insufficient.
“If you have to think about it,” Tav continues, “It’s been too long.”
She has a point.
