“Ah. Never mind that idea, then.”
Oh, the things I would’ve liked had we been young men together, Thomas thinks wistfully as they approach the dining room. I would’ve liked you.

“I know I can. He’s been a blessing.” At the mention of Thomas, Innocent had brightened, but there is something searching in his expression when he looks back at Aldo, like he hadn’t quite gotten the answer he wanted.

И тут он поводит носом и начинает думать, что сошел с ума, потому что пахнет как всегда рядом с Джулио, преимущественно сигаретным дымом и немного гелем для душа 3-в-1 морская свежесть, но он был уверен, что на него буквально пахнуло чем-то густым, теплым, сладковато-пряным, от чего во рту мгновенно собралась слюна и засосало под ложечкой. (или: Альдо приезжает в Милан аккурат под течку Джулио. Джулио уверен, что беспокоиться не о чем)

Его отец — тогда (в момент первой исповеди) и тогда (в момент второй) — еще был видной фигурой на политической арене Италии, и Джулио не дурак, он знает, как делаются эти вещи, как тайна исповеди блюдется, пока священник не исповедуется священнику, а тот — другому, и вот уже пошла волна шепотков: а вы знаете, что один политик...
