Goodbye hovers on his tongue. It’s the least that Neil deserves from him. There are so many more things to be said.
Andrew shuts his phone without leaving a voicemail. He drops his phone onto the counter and slips a knife out of its sheath.
Right before spring break during his fourth year at Palmetto, Andrew Minyard attempts suicide. Now everyone has to figure out how to move forward from here.

It was so dark when Bucky handed him the note, the fire just burning out, and he glanced back only once to see Steve watching him as he walked away.

Neil is frozen in place. He can’t think, can’t breathe; all he can think is: Andrew should be getting up right now, why isn’t he getting up, oh god there’s blood, they’re going to touch him, they can’t touch him.
Andrew suffers a major head injury following a match and has to be rushed to the hospital for emergency care. Neil hates being unable to protect him from the suffering that comes with recovery, so does the only thing he can that will help: stay.
