Summary
Dick and Bruce's relationship is strained at best after he moves out but the more time Dick spends with Jason the more his own tangled pack bonds call out for something more. When he finds his brother alone on the cusp of his first heat Dick will do anything to keep him safe and comfortable; and somewhere along the way he becomes the glue holding their little pack together.
Years later Jason has burned every bridge, he's lucky to even be allowed near the bats, so he takes any scraps of attention he can and tries to live with the grief of a lost pack. He's been struggling through his heats alone in one of his safe houses and hiding it from Bruce and the others when Dick finally gets tired of giving him space.

Jason sometimes wishes he had it in him to murder Bruce. Nightmares sucked, but Bruce really needed to stop knocking on his door every time he dreamt of Jason dying. But they were getting better. Slowly. With more death threats and death jokes than were probably healthy. It was progress, though.
So, when the knock sounded, Jason climbed out of bed with only a muttered curse. He left the knife behind.

Jason had a knack for getting into trouble. And he—he couldn’t afford to lose him again, even if their relationship as it is now was strained.
So he had hidden cameras. Tucked into the corners of Jason’s safehouses. Enough to tell Bruce if Jason was safe.
The first feeds showed what he expected. The scuffed couch, the cluttered kitchen table, an empty whiskey glass left behind. Normal enough.
He clicked through to the one that had triggered the motion sensor. The bedroom.
Bruce’s eyes sharpened, prepared for potential intruders. What he found instead was Jason—but he wasn’t alone.

“I don’t just love you, chum.” Bruce rested a large hand on his shoulder, and Jason couldn’t force himself to pull away like he wanted to. “I’ve missed you.”
“You don’t miss me, B,” Jason violently shrugged him off, pretending that the absence of his touch wasn’t like being torn apart. “You miss a boy who died in a warehouse. Not the murderer who goes against everything you believe in.”
“We all have exceptions,” Bruce told him, not a flicker of emotion on his face despite the intensity of his voice. Some training one could never beat out of themselves. “You are mine, son. I don’t care what you’ve done or who you think you are; I just want you back.”

By the quiet certainty that somewhere, someone required him to exist tomorrow. That his presence filled a gap that could not yet be closed. That if he stopped moving, stopped breathing, something vital would fail. someone would fall.
so when he knows his kids dont need him anymore, bruce wayne decides to leave, for he does not have a purpose anymore.

“Dick?” Bruce voice echoes from the room over. “Is that you?”
“Yeah,” Jason hums, pitching his voice slightly higher to match Dick’s.
He doesn’t even need to try to mask his Crime Alley drawl; he’s had enough practice of that over time, after all those years in stiff-collared dress shirts, speaking to rich gala attendees and acting as if he wasn’t filthier than the bottom of their dress shoes. Back when he was still Bruce's son.
After a run-in with a sorcerer leaves Bruce temporarily blind, Jason takes advantage of this to visit the manor whilst pretending to be Dick.

Nothing changes, and Neteyam dies. And dies, and dies, and dies.
Is this his punishment? Is this Lo’ak’s penitence for causing his brother's death, for killing Neteyam like his dad always said he would?
“Eywa,” he begs, “what is happening to me?”
Silence answers him.or,
Neteyam can't stop dying, and Lo'ak can't stop waking up that morning to save him.

Batman realises he can't ever remember the last time Dick waited for his call before jumping headfirst into a skirmish. Well before he turned fifteen, at the very least. A long time ago now.
They're working properly together all of a sudden, listening to each other and waiting for instructions — but for some inexplicable reason, Bruce feels as though they're two completely different people. It is still Batman and Robin, but it's not Batman and Robin.
It's… strange.
