In one swift motion, he knelt and pushed the plug into the outlet, turning and feeling along the casing beneath the screen for the power button. A springy click… and then his ears filled with the familiar high-pitched electric whine of a working CRT.

He truly believes that everyone has a bit of good in them, and nowhere is that more apparent than with every mention of his childhood friend, Miles. Though she may not have the whole picture, Mia knows that Phoenix will one day be in court saving people like Miles from cruel prosecutors like Edgeworth.
Or: Mia doesn't know that Phoenix's childhood friend Miles and Prosecutor Edgeworth are the same person... until she does.

Miles tried not to grimace. He folded it primly and stuffed it into Phoenix’s hoodie pocket.
“Getting a bit frisky there, are we?” He smirked. This close, the smell increased in intensity.
Miles hooked an arm around him and pulled, “we’re leaving.”

The cat has been there for a while now. Always faithfully waiting, staring at him from the steps with its grey eyes, when he comes home from work in the evening. Only ever in the evening, though.
It never backed away from him, never even flinched. When he first saw it sitting at his door and held out his hand for the cat to sniff, it did so almost without hesitation. The cat is not very affectionate, though it does seem to like getting a few pets. Its deep grey fur is unbelievably soft, too soft for Phoenix to believe that the cat's a stray.
But it doesn't have a collar, and it's always there in the evenings. It must be a stray. And as is so, so typical of him, he's started caring for it.

Mostly about letting people into your life and letting them change your way of life: how caring for others can ultimately help you care for yourself.

Except another von Karma has taken interest in the case: after all, the death penalty doesn't work so well on the undead, the living ask inconvenient questions, and she seems to be the only one in this particular coven concerned with CONSEQUENCES. In which Edgeworth reckons with a DL-6 a little bloodier than usual, Franziska teams up with foolish mortals, Maya may be spookier than any of the vampires in the room, and Phoenix's healthy skepticism bites him in the ass. Not literally. Or not in the ass, at least.
