Summary
It seems like Eddie doesn’t want his friendship anymore. Avoids him in the halls and cafeteria, but Steve is nothing if not persistent. He writes a full letter in elvish to slip into Eddie’s locker, but Eddie catches him. Shoves the letter back, unopened, unread, with a harsh whispered, “Don’t you get it Harrington? I don’t want to be your friend. Fuck off.”
Steve and Eddie were best friends who make a promise to learn the elvish alphabet so that they can pass notes without worrying about other people reading them. Things don't work out how they'd planned, but Steve learns Elvish anyway. Just in case.

Something I've been wanting to talk to you about for a while, some relevant information I should probably divulge, but I thought it might be prudent to wait until I was out of punching range."
"Sometimes I can't keep up when you talk," Steve says. "You wanted to tell me something?"
"Yeah. Yes. I absolutely did, and I'm going to tell you. Right now." Eddie twists his rings around his fingers, takes a deep breath, and says, "I'm gay, Steve."
"Oh," says Steve, and Eddie dies a thousand deaths, each more intricate and painful than being eaten by demobats. Then Steve says, "Boy groupies, then?"

“I have a dick, don’t I?” Steve snaps back. Eddie thanks his personal pantheon of indifferent gods that his face is already pink with annoyance, so he doesn’t humiliate himself by blushing over nothing more than an oblique reference to Steve Harrington’s dick.
“Just because you have one doesn’t mean–”
"You're the one who has no basis for comparison! I at least have some kind of experience with blow jobs. Lots of experience, in fact."
"Yes, we all know you're a huge slut, Steve," Eddie says. "No need to brag."
Every time Steve comes over to Eddie's to smoke up, they end up in some kind of stupid argument. Usually it's about music, or movies, or whether Dustin should ever be allowed to have a pet again. But tonight, somehow–Eddie can't remember exactly how it got started, but he definitely blames Steve–they're in each other's faces about which of them gives better head.

The kiss is brief, only a second or two, not even long enough for Steve to really register what's happening before Eddie pulls away. Steve’s frozen in place, his arms still wrapped around Eddie.
Steve blinks down at him. "What?" he says stupidly. What?
Eddie closes his eyes, a weak smile on his lips. "Something to remember me by."
"You're not dying," Steve says. It feels like his mouth isn't attached to his brain anymore; the inside of his head is a dial tone.
"Of course I am," Eddie says, eyes still closed. "I'm dying right now."
"You're not, though." His voice keeps getting higher, for some reason. "You're not going to die here."
"Spare me the pity, Harrington, I know—"
"You're literally not dying right now." His whole body is hot. Is he sweating? "You lost some blood but they didn't get deep enough—I looked—you're going to be fine."
There's a pause. "I'm going to be fine?" Eddie asks, voice also going high and thin. "You're—sure?"
"Yes."
"Fascinating. Great. Are you—could you do me a favor, then, and maybe just—leave me here anyway?"
"What?" Steve says. The dial tone gets louder. "No. Why?"
"No reason," Eddie says, voice tight.
