Disillusionment occurs in the strangest of ways.
The young twins, Aerion and Aemma Targaryen, born second to Prince Maekar Targaryen--have been unfortunately attached at the hip since they were simple babes. It never changed. Not even with the girl's betrothal at one and ten. They simply became crueler, although with one created and shaped more by the other.
They have grown up now, sure-footed and bright-eyed. But the servants whisper and gossip of all that could be forced to come.

TLDR: Aemma loves her brother, and has been crafted by him. She believes him to be her protector, and the only man, let alone person, capable of understanding her. Her betrothal, which she has ignored and despised for years, begins to come into talk again.
Over time, perhaps she will realize how far the pain of her upbringing has been used against her.
