Summary
Jack had just stepped back onto the main floor when he clocked movement at the ambulance entrance, two guys hurrying in, the smaller one helping a guy with a sweatshirt covered in blood. But something was wrong, some unnamable instinct rising within Jack at the way they moved. It was too fluid, too controlled. Jack knew what the walking wounded looked like, had seen it for years, from war zones to bar fights. This wasn't the injured seeking help; this was men hunting.
Time slowed, Jack's heart rate spiking, the adrenaline dump casting everything in sharp relief—the full ED floor, patients plus shift change meaning twice the usual personnel were here.
Robby was here.
That thought got him moving, Jack approaching laterally. He got there right as the guns came out.

Some whirlwind coming-of-age story locked away in the attic with all the other books from her childhood she’ll show to the kids when they’re older. She thinks maybe she was too lonely growing up – thinks, sometimes, it’s why she was so happy when the twins were born, her Ruby only had to spend twenty-three minutes alone in this world. She thinks Shane was lonely, too. So, she’s filled the void with a hockey player as she is wont to do, and he’s filled that same void with her. She’s protective, is the point.
So, when she unfolds the slip of paper and sees a string of digits and the name Lily, she knows exactly what she’s holding.

Twelve year-old Harry took a pinch of the proffered floo powder from Mrs. Weasley’s flower pot, dropped it into the Burrow’s empty fireplace, choked on a breathful of hot ash, and stuttered out, “D-Dia-gon Alley.”
The Floo Network, being invented by wizards and therefore following a system that was a good sight more whimsical than it was logical, did not dump poor Harry out one grate too far, in Knockturn Alley. Instead, Harry tumbled out of a different hearth, still coughing on soot, and found himself on the floor of the Dragon Valley pub. Before he could even get his bearings, a strangled voice from over to his left called out, “James?”

After that, Harry wakes up screaming more nights than not, and he even cries on the bad ones, which makes James cry too. In this regard, James reckons that his first week of parenting a full-grown teenage adult bears an awful lot of resemblance to parenting a newborn baby. He feels both blessed and terrifyingly out of his depth.

“No, not really,” Rozanov said. Some of his teammates laughed, although they mostly looked surprised that Shane was speaking to them at all. Rozanov didn’t laugh, though. “Are you Russian?”

Despite an inauspicious start, when Russia’s Ilya Rozanov learns that Canada’s Shane Hollander is fluent in Russian at their first World Junior Championships tournament, it changes everything and sets them on a different course.
