Let’s get you settled.” Scott nodded to something, someone behind Doctor Legundo, who looked behind himself to find Owen appear from what could’ve been the chilling air that filled the castle, grabbing Doctor Legundo by the neck and slamming his head against the table with a loud, vicious, CRACK.
Or Scott Goldsmith noticed his fledglings had some questions about the cure so he brings the Doctor to the castle to answer them. But old stories unearth themselves and something some of the townsfolk have feared since childhood has been stuck in Oakhurst with them this whole time.

'Well, I'm dreaming anyway,' House thought amiably, taking the wrist and setting his finger there.
He waited.
He put the wrist down, painfully knelt, and reached thoughtlessly to the strangers collar— there was a warning inhuman growl that he ignored, as he put fingers against the carotid artery of the neck. The live, growling neck, under a fall of white hair, and above the black leather collar of a very expensive leather jacket.
There was no pulse.
This close, House could see the liquid on the mans face was blood, welling from his eyes and dripping down his face, to land on the silk shirt of the body in his lap. He looked anguished, and House realized he was kneeling on his office floor, leg throbbing and cane dropped next to him, in front of what was most likely a fucking vampire.
"Please, I need you to help him."

"My, you have been busy," Scott said, and Legundo did not look at Scott's eyes— shut them in fact, when Scott grabbed his chin and forced his face forward. He could smell that cold breath now, like a funeral parlor, and pulled away with a grimace, hand moving to his belt—
Scott snatched that up as well, and with a twist and a surge of inhuman strength, pressed Legundo flat to the table. His breath left him in a rush, and Scott laughed.
Scott was shorter than Legundo, and much lighter as well. The only thing keeping him planted on the ground was his own body weight, and Legundo had the advantage of leverage.
He still had a hand free. Legundo grabbed on to the collar of Scott's elegant coat, and put a knee into the vampire's stomach. He had the satisfaction of seeing surprise in Scott's eyes— before he was handily thrown clean off of Legundo, and over the far side of the table.
He would not get the element of surprise again.
(Or; Legundo gets bit by EVERY Vampire at some point or another, for varying reasons.)

Summary
Techno always knew that his secret "rebellion" would come to an end eventually. That being his true self could never coexist with the life that he was born into. But he managed to ignore it and grab any piece of freedom to be himself for as long as he could manage.
Until a partnership was struck between the Blade and Craft mafia families. And then it only made sense for Techno's hand to be used to seal the deal, no matter his opinion on it.
Meanwhile, Phil has never been close with his older brother, Dante. Or to his more advantageous position in the family. All the things that Kristin tells him about Dante's new spouse only adds to distaste. And accelerates his plans to change some things around here...

It was to Scott Goldsmith's incredible misfortune that he had recently realized he could, in fact, still feel. Absolutely revolting. He should have followed his original plan. He should have just left Shelby and Pyro to their conversation; now he had to feel conflicted about allowing this whole mess.
Why couldn't he just have let the pathetic creature die?
Oh right; it was his pathetic creature.

None of them noticed even a hint of Scott's presence as he carefully stepped onto the stone segment of the bridge behind Pyro. He hadn't thought they would, given his centuries of practice. But it was still disappointing; their enemy had at least one vampire firmly in their ranks— that his menagerie of Fledglings did so little to observe their surroundings for unwanted ears was a rather glaring weakness.

What if there had been a choice? What if the world- or at the very least, a certain vampire- had been a little bit kinder? No massacres, no beacons, no cursed slumber. How would our story change, and what would remain inevitably the same?

Basically a Pyro centric fic where I make Scott significantly less evil (mostly because I wanted to explore the logistics and world building of ethical vampirism), but don’t worry- he still gets to be scary sometimes as a treat. He’s been allowed to develop and grow a lot more as a person in the last 600 years, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t still skeletons in his closet. After all, there must be a reason he decided to change for the better.
