“Um, nothing. I was just wondering where you ran off to. You know the fire alarm went off.”
“Really? I didn’t hear a thing down here… we should get that checked out!”
Shuichi eyes the fire siren at the front of the room, then glances back at Ouma. The ceiling is also crowded with sprinklers, a typical safety mechanic and a requirement in any building that is going to host the public for an extended period of time. He folds his arms across his chest.
“Okay, well, I heard it,” Ouma admits, “but not from down here! It wasn’t a lie!”
“So you heard it when you set it off,” Shuichi guesses.
“Right as always, detective! I mean, wrong as always! I didn’t do it! You can’t prove anything!”
Shuichi sighs. “Of course.”

Shuichi glances over at the question. He’s been all but immersed in his homework, and since Kokichi joined him on the roof, it seems he’s switched positions a minimum of three times. At the moment, Kokichi’s legs are hooked over the railing, and he’s splayed out on his back, arms spread, hair fanned out beneath his head. His eyes, dual-toned, gold and violet, are focused on Shuichi, and scrunched with a smile.
They’ve known each other just about as long as they’ve been alive—since before they could speak at least—so Shuichi knows that smile means nothing but trouble. He laughs and shakes his head.
“It’s fine, but I know you cheat when you play it.”
“Cheat!” Kokichi gasps, feet hooking under the railing so he can hoist himself into an upright position. “I resent that! When do I ever cheat?”
Shuichi twirls his pencil between his forefinger and thumb and doesn’t answer.

But no. Shuichi’s just planning a date for them, and he’s not even directly lying. It’s just that he’s so shitassed at surprises, he keeps having to come up with excuses for his behaviour, and that’s where all the tells come in. It’s endearing. And Kokichi likes that Shuichi still tries to surprise him, despite the fact that they both know Kokichi can see through him, and they both know Shuichi can’t really deceive anybody. It’s sweet. Keeps things fun! So Kokichi keeps his mouth shut, sitting on the edge of the bed and swinging his legs. He does nab Shuichi’s sweater off the edge of the mattress though, pulling it over his head to prevent the risk of boyfriend withdrawals while Shuichi’s off dealing with whatever it is he’s dealing with.
When the door reopens, Shuichi emerges, looking a bit flustered still. His phone is in his hand. He crosses the room, setting it back down on the nightstand and dropping onto the mattress.
“Sorry about that. It really wasn't an emergency,” Shuichi says bashfully. “I just, ah, yeah. Had to handle it.”
Kokichi finds himself fighting off a smile again.

Summary
The world works as such: everyone has a soulmate that they must find before either one of them dies. If one of them dies, the other person will become stuck in a loop, starting from a specific moment in time. However, the soulmate indicator changes each time and gradually becomes harder to recognize. This will continue until they find their soulmate.
Saihara Shuichi has never shown an interest in finding his soulmate. That is, until said soulmate dies and Shuichi finds himself stuck in a time loop. In order to break out of it, he decides to search for his soulmate, finding himself becoming more and more involved with a certain supreme leader.

The routine of Hinata's flower giving kept continuing and Komaeda did nothing to stop them. Each time the brunette gave each type of flowers, Komaeda become more and more confused about the gesture.
The flowers either meant beauty or love and such thing like these.
Komaeda's head almost hurt.
He also remembered how Hinata was clingier than usual, always sticking around Komaeda like glue and always asking if he liked to hang out. It wasn't like Komaeda didn't like the company, it was just a bit odd that the brunette chose him constantly over everyone else.
Hinata also got a bit more protective, every time someone like Saionji (or Soda sometimes but they were more accidents and he immediately apologized after seeing Hinata's harsh glare) threw an insult towards Komaeda, Hinata would immediately warn them to watch their mouth.
Komaeda thought he needed some time to think, to think what was actually happening.
As he he was inside his own cottage, sitting on his bed, he saw something slipped inside.

It's a pretty unrealistic conclusion, all things considered. But he didn't know how else to explain it.
Shuichi is stuck in a time loop.
Forced to relive the same night over and over... that cruel night where someone dies in that hydraulic press. Shuichi's confident that if he can stop these events from playing out- if he can save that someone's life- then time would progress normally once again. He just... has to figure out how to do that.
And heaven knows, help comes from the most startling of places.

ASFAJDVSHSJDH I LOVE THIS SO MUCH!!!!
So I decided to reread this and I don't regret it at all! This has to be the best timeloop fic I've read.Not just for the Saiouma, even though they're cute as always. I really liked watching Shuichi trying to uncover the truth and save everyone while slowly falling into despair, and Kokichi's POVs? YES. He felt so in character, and seeing how Shuichi looked in another POV really showed me how much of a toll the timeloop was taking on him. I did feel like almost crying at some parts, which was not great because I was reading this in public, but still worth it!
Very great and I will be reading this again! ...Probably just not in public. Maybe. Very worth the risk of looking crazy.

Shuichi frowns, his gaze picking apart the crinkle of Kokichi’s eyes. “You’re lying to me.”
Kokichi gives him a lopsided grin, lowering his arms and tilting his head to the side. “Maybe,” he says, that sort of teasing lilt Shuichi has gotten used to hearing in his voice. “You’re a detective, aren’t you? Isn’t it your job to figure that out?”
Kokichi leaves anonymous letters lying around for Shuichi to find. Shuichi just about loses his mind.

It's been around a year since Gardenview's shutdown, and the toons have established something of a new normal. Going on runs to keep the lights on, secretly delivering food by train, cleaning up ichor spills and repairing pipes.
Looey has found a place for himself, keeping the others safe, taking the hits so others don't have to!
Sprout isn't so sure about this career path...
Or,
Looey and Sprout being stupid and falling in love. This fic acts more as my exploration of the plot, of their personalities, and of their dynamic. All of it will be somewhat of a unique story based on canon lore.
This is my first time posting a fanfic! There may be possible mischaracterization due to my headcanons, and who knows how unprofessional and goofy the writing may come across. I’m planning for it to take quite a while before they have their first kiss, so expect many chapters to come.
I had a blast writing this and I hope you like it too ^^
