Mike was no stranger to Will Byers’ touch. But he knew that both of them were too awkward to properly hold each other any closer. So they kept themselves at a comfortable distance that was just enough for Mike to study them. Will’s body was broader than it used to be. Maybe even a little boxier, albeit with the recognizable soft edges he was so used to, but it’s strange nonetheless how it’s only then that the obvious fact hits Mike: Will has changed. Both of them have, in fact.
Most of all, it was most strange to him that, even with all the scares and memories of gore he had collected from all those years, Mike could only see that shy boy he had walked up to in kindergarten. And it was almost like, in his mind, they were still frozen as little kids on those swings, even after all this time.
Prom. Clammy hands. Fruit Punch. Dancing. Just how coming of age can Mike get it?

They send him across the stars to Earth in a pod, where he is found and raised by kindhearted humans who help him grow into his extraordinary abilities. As he becomes a beacon of hope, he still carries a hollow space within him—an absence of memory, culture, and answers about who he truly is and why he was sent away.
This time—in this origin—Kara joins him in the pod. And she remembers Krypton all too well.
