Summary
The first time Ghost had seen them, it was amongst the rubble of the city. The body was no more than another corpse to add to the ever growing pile, half crushed out on the pavement, a testament to just how badly he fucked up this time. Ghost had seen his fair share of death, being the one to deal the killing blow to others himself, it was part of the job description. Nothing was off limits when it came to war. Children, women, the disabled, the elderly, everyone was a target if it meant a win for the opposing side. Which was why the corpse hadn't been all that special at first, right side crushed by a fallen chunk of what looked like the remnants of a nearby building, bright yellow jumper stained a horrible off-colour red that had clearly been soaking for a while; long enough to have turned a dark, rusty shade of maroon.
The second time he saw that bloodied yellow jumper was on a living, breathing human being. Not a half crushed corpse out on the street, but a walking, talking individual. It could have been chalked up to coincidence. But Ghost could recognize that jumper anywhere. It had been burned into the back of his eyes the first time he saw them. Except this time, the person wearing it wasn't dead.
