“You’re the Earth King,” Azula said.
Kuei shook his head, though his eyes were kind and his smile almost rueful when he said, “Earth King Regent, I’m afraid.”
Or
Several years post-canon, Azula has settled into routines that keep her busy and everyone else mostly out of her way. At least until the arrival Kuei disrupts those patterns.

In direct continuation of The Ties That Bind (stitched together with events from the past), Azula and Zuko's journeys are woven together.
Having been tasked with finding the Avatar and returning him to the Fire Nation once and for all, Azula will complete her mission by any means necessary. Even if it means dealing with her traitorous Uncle.
Having been separated from his Water Tribe family, Zuko will do his best to survive until he can make his way home. Even when his loyalties are tested to their limits, and his place in the world is unclear.
Will bonds be forged, strengthened, or fall apart when held together with Frayed Lines?Series

or
The Selkkla AU

“You look cold,” a voice said.
She sniffed—a reaction to the comment, and certainly not a reaction to the temperatures that were making her nose resemble the blush color of Ty Lee’s favorite shirt. Turning in the direction of the voice, she found the first sign of warmth she’d found in the South Pole outside of that Agni forsaken tent. A pair of light eyes watched her from beneath the thick folds of a dappled, grey fur cloak hood.
“So I’ve been told. I would have to imagine it’s a product of my upbringing,” Azula answered.

Summary
An AU where the four nations speak different languages:
The plan had been simple...
Step 1. Break the Avatar out of the Pohuai Stronghold.
Step 2. Drag the Avatar back to his ship.
Step 3. Sail home.
Step 4. Present the Avatar to his father and have his honor restored.Nowhere in the plan had Zuko accounted for becoming injured and the Avatar dragging him back to their camp. It certainly hadn't accounted for them taking him prisoner. Nor had it accounted for the added complication of Avatar's companions not having the decency to learn the Common Dialect. Only the Avatar understands him and communication in the group is a tangled mess.
Because when you don't speak the same language, how can you find a Common Ground?

Summary
“Princess, have you at the very least done a small amount of bending in private since the beginning of this rebellion of yours?” Piandao asked.
“No.” Azula’s answer came colored in disgust and indignation.
“I see, and are you aware that spending prolonged periods of time without utilizing your bending can be damaging?”
“Yes, well so can watching half of your brother’s face being burnt off.”
Watching her brother's Agni Kai broke something in Azula. Completely disillusioned to the idea of being the golden child, Azula goes on strike and refuses to use her bending at all. Ozai ships her to Master Piandao to train her in blades while waiting for her rebellion to burn out. Unfortunately for him and Master Pi, Azula has no intention of bending-her wit and will are as strong and sharp as any blade.
