Summary
One of the things about a Bond Engine, as it turns out, is that bonds can’t exactly exist with just one person to anchor them.
Their echoes can, sure, and Lucretia’s frantic remembrances of her family gives enough juice to get her to relative safety, but it’s not enough. Even if food weren’t a problem, she wouldn’t be able to take off back to the stars, stay in orbit and well out of range of the towering Judges and their cannons until the Hunger descends again.
She tries, back at the start of that impossibly long year, takes off with flimsy paneling that shrieks and threatens to tear as she forces her way out of the atmosphere. She sits up there, up in the cold silence between stars, hands folded tight in thought as she tries to distract herself with planning. The Starblaster quivers, jolts, echoing and empty and barely keeping her from the void of space, and this masterwork of magic and metal has never felt so fraught.

Summary
After a few more turns, the aide pauses, looks back at Murray. “One moment,” she says, before knocking on a door and poking her head in. Her voice is low as she says something to the occupant and Murray picks at her teeth again. There’s nothing caught there anymore but it’s habit, a neat little fuck you that reminds everyone just who they’re dealing with. She’s still doing it as the woman pops back out, face tight and polite. “He’s ready to see you.”
“Thanks, doll,” Murray says, and sure, maybe she’s laying it on extra thick, but it’s her reward for spending time in this stuffy shithole. The lady’s smile somehow gets tighter as she steps aside, letting Murray pass.
Bolaire looks as unimpressed as a clay mask can where he sits behind the desk, hands folded over a stack of papers. He waits until the door has clicked shut behind her to ask: “Is it your intention to menace all the employees of this fine establishment, or does it come to you naturally?”

Summary
Sitting in her office, chair swiveled to let her look out the porthole at the blur of hyperspace, Baeri’s mind is stuck on the fact that she’s just wrecked things for everyone on the ship. It’s one thing to do stupid shit when you’re the only one on the line for it, stars know that she did plenty of that as a kid, but her actions affect more than just herself. Baeri’s supposed to know better.
Baeri forces an inhale, holds it, and focuses on the facts. They’re on the Empire’s bad side now, and in a much more tangible way than they had been before. The names of her ship and her crew have been recorded, and it’s only a matter of time before a bounty comes down on their heads. Money’s getting tight, especially because they weren’t able to make their delivery on Poltergeist. Kinori’s got blood on her hands, and she doesn’t seem like the type who’ll be able to wash it off easily.
With a spasm of her taxed diaphragm, Baeri is made to exhale. She got them all into this mess, and she’ll be the one to get them out of it. One thing at a time.

Summary
There’s a noise coming from out in the living area and Shane leaves the bedroom to follow it, stretching and popping his back as he goes. Sunlight shines through the walls of glass, warm and bright and turning Ilya’s hair gold where he stands in the kitchen. His head bobs along to the music playing tinny from his phone, curls bouncing, and the smell of cooking meat drifts through the air.
Feet quiet against the cool floor, Shane makes his way to the breakfast bar. Ilya doesn’t look up from his task, humming along with the music while he pokes at the ground meat sizzling away in a frying pan. There’s something tangling in Shane’s stomach as he watches, some bottomless well of greed yawning wide at the sight of his boyfriend, standing in his kitchen like he belongs there.
“You’re up early,” Shane says, draping himself along the line of Ilya’s back and hooking his chin over his shoulder.
To his credit, Ilya doesn’t jump, just gives a pleased hum and leans back against Shane’s chest. “Morning.”

Summary
In the corner of her vision, Fig’s arms are crossed tight. “Is that- is breaking up something that you want?”
“No.” Ayda has no room for thought on the matter, and the answer bursts out of her without hesitation. “I enjoy being your paramour. I enjoy spending time with you. I enjoy the way that you allow me to see the world in a new light through our interactions. I enjoy our relationship very much, but I know that I am often more invested in things than those around me, and although I do not want to lose this, I want even less to force you to remain in a position that makes you uncomfortable.”
There’s something unreadable in Fig’s voice. “You think I’m uncomfortable?”
Ayda hums. “You appear more stressed than usual when we are around each other.” A pause, and then, plucking at the clasps of her shirt: “You do not touch me with the ease that you touch others.”

Summary
"Hang on," Hen says, pushing herself up in her chair, "You're telling me you had sex with men and still didn't think you might be bisexual?"
"Must not have been very good sex," Eddie says, snorting into his beer.
"Classic Buck 1.0," Chimney says, shaking his head.
Buck laughs. "This is more like Buck 0.5," he says. "You guys know I was on the road a lot after I dropped out of college the second time. It’s handy to know how to give a good blowjob if you don't know where you're gonna sleep on a given night." He's greeted with silence. Buck blinks. "What? You can't be that surprised, you used to joke about how I would sleep with anything that moved back then." He looks around at all of them. "Oh, this is not a safe space suddenly," he says, scrunching up his face.

The corporates take what they want. We steal it back for you.
In which murderbots are humans, humans are murderbots, two teams of idiotically altruistic humans(/constructs) get in way over their heads, and nobody's neck actually gets broken. (This time.)

Absolutely incredible from top to bottom, the Maddie and Eddie interactions, the Chris writing, the realistic spirally g and sunk cost fallacy, the terror and importance of asking for help, absolutely fantastic

Time loop story that focuses on the aftermath? Don’t mind if I DO!!!! Such a wonderful exploration of the uniquely isolating trauma of a time loop and how to learn to live once you get out of it

Amazing, reread as frequently as is reasonable (and sometimes, more than is reasonable).
