He doesn't really get it. Steve that is. Hasn't for a while. Doesn't get what the kids see in him, or Nancy, or hell–just about every other individual hovering in his general vicinity–but he thinks he wants to. Just not right now. Not when he's realized all of thirty seconds ago that Eddie Munson is dead.
"Hey, man," the other says. "Are you okay?"
Jonathan feels like he's going to choke.
"I just didn't know you knew Eddie, that's all."
And here it is again; that irrational stab of anger he occasionally gets whenever Steve is around, because the other is just so goddamn irritating sometimes. He's like a thorn or a sliver, always pricking him at the worst possible times and it's like–god. There's this entire room of people inside, his brother included, but when it comes to something as subtle as his apparent reaction to the death of a stranger, the only one who seemed to notice and or even care was Steve.
So maybe that was a lie. Maybe his reaction wasn't so subtle. Maybe Eddie being a stranger to him was a lie, too.

And then I rewrote the entire ending because why not.

Summary
After they defeat that creature and get the news that Will has been found and is in the hospital, they just fucking…collapse.
Right there, on Jonathan Byers’ bed.
Jonathan is exhausted after trying to find Will.
Nancy is exhausted after trying to find Barb.
And Steve is just tired.
There are matching scars on Jonathan and Nancy’s palms. Steve’s nose is busted up by the very boy who just grabbed him and saved him from a monster- after which, Steve saved him in return. Nancy's bat is loosely dangling from Steve's fingers.
And the three of them collapse, falling into each other, curling around each others’ aching bodies in Jonathan Byers’ cramped bed in the house with the peeling wallpaper and the burn scars on the carpet and the frantic alphabet scrawled on the wall in an attempt to communicate with a boy who couldn’t become a ghost.
They don't even have the energy to shower. To wash off the blood and the smell of smoke from burning hell-fire creatures.
They just fall into each other, the weight of gravity too hard to fight.

Mike Wheeler moves back home to Hawkins after graduating college. His friends are all off on their own, his parents are in their own world, and even Holly has her own life now. He feels restless, like he should be doing something with his life now that he went through school.
When someone suggests he go back to school in New York City, he jumps at the offer. It's a way out of the hole he dug himself into, a way for him to really figure his shit out. He definitely is not thinking about a certain brunette he knows that lives in the city, someone he hasn't seen since the day they graduated.
Or, a post-canon Byler fic where Mike really lost himself during college and goes to New York for grad school, where he reunites with Will in the city
