Yuuri’s voice cut off and he gave a frustrated-sounding sigh.
“We all worry about you, you know. Because when you care about someone, you want to know them,” he continued, and the gentling of his voice on the last sentence made Viktor look away, afraid that he’d reveal too much by way of the slight wobble in the set of his mouth.
Yuuri wanted to know him? He wanted to know about his silly nightmares, or why Viktor was far more comfortable turning mean and petty rather than soft and yielding when confronted with his own negative emotions?
It seemed far too good to be true, because it was only a matter of time before Yuuri realized that Viktor was too much and not enough; his parents had beat that truth into him, and well after their estrangement, Viktor heard their snide remarks march through his head.
So caught up in his own pity party, he almost didn’t hear Yuuri continue.
“So you can deflect…flash that fake smile I’m beginning to hate so much, or say sharp things that you think will push me away. But that won’t stop me from worrying about you.”

I get such secondhand embarrassment sometimes by the things I read in this subreddit. Most notably: the use of the word “botched” when it comes to Yuuri and Sochi. I think I may be driven to commit homicide if I see yet another person talk about last night’s livestream “scandal” with some throwaway comment like “oh, no wonder Yuuri got trashed at the banquet, he’d just completely botched his chance to impress Viktor”. Listen here, you shriveled rutabagas!!! YUURI DIDN’T ‘BOTCH’ ANYTHING, NOT THEN AND NOT EVER!!
I’m sorry to have to bring root vegetables into this, but have these people just been ignoring all of Viktor’s interviews these last 3 years?!

“Every time you point out a building you think you can recognize, it makes me feel like I’m seeing my hometown through new eyes,” Yuuri said, sounding shy. “The city’s been offering hot air balloon rides since well before I was born, and I guess I took it for granted as something only brand new tourists would get anything out of. But now that we’re up here and I can see how excited you are by it all even after being here for a few months…it feels like a reminder to appreciate what’s in front of me.”
A loaded silence stretched out between them and Viktor could only blink a few times in astonishment as he tried his best to catalogue what such heartfelt words brought up for him.
In the moment, he was stunned at how relieved the admission made him feel; he knew, instinctively, that Yuuri had been enjoying himself during this outing, but even so, it soothed a deep-seated ache within him that wondered if his “oohing” and “aahing” over every little thing he could see was getting annoying.

“Oh, my! Are you alright?” Viktor urgently questioned, laying a hand on his shoulder while Yuuri tried to attend to his streaming nose.
His tone was genuine, but Yuuri knew him well enough by now to pick up on the glee at making him lose composure so early on in their role-playing. As he wiped his chin, he threw Viktor a dirty look, noting how he was trying not to laugh.
“I’m f-fine, Pantalaimon. My name is Lee, by the way,” Yuuri managed to choke out in between a few hoarse coughs. “Lee Scoresby. I was caught off-guard because for a second, I thought I saw someone I knew on the dancefloor.”
And because his nose was stinging pretty acutely, Yuuri decided to lean into his petty side.
“I thought I’d seen my ex, Chihoko,” he nonchalantly went on, now having to fight a grin at the betrayed look his husband shot him. “She had a very distinctively bend-y dance style, it was kind of unmistakable.”

Just when he was sure that Yuuri would beg for her to say something, Mari looked up and voiced a sentence that made Viktor’s eyes sting and his chest ache.
“You should let me pierce your ears. I’m pretty much an expert at it by now.”
And…oh.
Crying was still a new enough thing for Viktor that he often didn’t even realize it was happening, but this was not one of those times; tears of joy and overwhelm and sheer relief dripped steadily down his cheeks, and he grounded himself in the sensation.
Before he could even think about wiping them away, Yuuri whipped out his favorite Makka-printed handkerchief, put it into Viktor’s hand and mechanically brought his arm up to his face.
You should let me pierce your ears.
It was a seven word reaction that was so completely Mari: a suggestion offered in the measured, almost subdued sort of tone that someone else might have taken for disinterest.

Her words were a little cold, a little distant, a little bit of everything Ayame knew would only grow until the canyon stretching between them was immeasurable. He tried to etch this memory of her into his mind. The tiny figure wrapped up thickly in secrets and lies, face still smooth and untouched by madness that wouldn't last long. Ayame knew, someday, he wouldn't be able to see this Akito anymore and there was a wound in his soul that would never heal.

Summary
Viktor Nikiforov and Katsuki Yuuri fall in love at sixteen, leave for different countries at eighteen, and break apart at twenty. It's a typical first love; its fire burning bright then simmering down into embers that leave them cold and empty.
They live their lives, both of them, halfheartedly trying to forget that bittersweet ache, an impossible task with one a world famous model and the other a top tier skater, always in the media's eyes.
When circumstances throw them together ten years later, all it should be is coincidence, slightly awkward and ultimately meaningless.
But Viktor and Yuuri were never good at making things easy for each other, except perhaps falling in love.

So much softness between them. Especially loved this bit at the end (A+ cockwarming):
He feels the flutter of rising, feels his body relaxing more until he’s certain Yuuri is trapped inside him and he in Yuuri’s embrace. They’re melting and in that cozy space inside his head he knows nothing but the warmth of breath, of a familiar beating heart, of a tight emptiness filled by Yuuri. He drifts with the floating dust particles in the air, with the inhale and exhale of Yuuri’s lungs.

Summary
Yuuri Katsuki is Nohin's top mage. He lives a quiet life, dedicated to helping the townspeople of Nohin castle town, all while researching how to put an end to heartbinding — a dark magic practice favoured by the warring kingdom of Iahwi.
When the war between Nohin and Iahwi results in the death of the head Iahwian mage, the Crowned King of Iahwi sends for Yuuri, asking the mage to join them, instead. Disgusted by the Iahwian's preferred practice of heartbinding, he refuses.
But what will happen when the Iahwian King retaliates by sending his best heartbound soldier — one Victor Nikiforov.The journey from Nohin to Iahwi is long, will Yuuri be able to convince his captor to set him free or will he suffer his new fate?

INCREDIBLE. This is such a creative premise and there is so much feeling in this story. Yuuri coming to understand and feel compassion for Viktor, and then Viktor realizing the true impacts of his heart bind…GAHHH it’s all so good!!
