Once they get back, Glinda disappears for a little while, and when she returns to their room and tells Elphaba where she went and why, everything changes.

Like was too mild a word. She felt suddenly shy around Glinda in a way she had not felt in a long time. The trousers made Glinda move differently. She seemed both more languid and more direct, more possessed of herself. In the past, it had always been Glinda who had giggled and blushed around her, but Elphaba had the strangest feeling that might be about to change.
