Summary
It wasn’t that Xiao Jingyan had been looking for an excuse to leave the capital. Nevertheless, he was relieved to receive news of a bandit troupe terrorising the villages along the northeastern borders.
His late father had been sick for four years. Jingyan had remained in the capital for a further three to help Jingyu become the new emperor. Now that he’d succeeded, he was raring to leave the stifling confines of court, even for just a little bit.
While investigating bandit activity, Jingyan is rescued by the Jiangzuo Alliance. Their famous chief, Mei Changsu, insists on a meeting but refuses to show his face.

Summary
A somewhat very indulgent series retelling from an unreliable narrator, Hua Cheng, through his eyes starting from his young age being Hong-er. The start of the canon divergence when Hua Cheng never left Xie Lian's side willingly. He's always been there... And things aren't what it seems.
Events that happen in the original series happen here but may be out of order, and some might be referenced in later parts of the work. The use of flashbacks will be very minimal. So it's best to walk into this series already knowing the original work and be open to canon divergences and small character tweaks (For Hua Cheng) after some character studies and theories in my head. (It's all brainrot your honor).
Plans are to have each arc separated out for easier viewing than one massive long fic, some arcs may be shorter, others longer.

Wei Wuxian is staring up at the sky, thinking idly about the taste of Emperor’s Smile on his tongue, when Suibian jumps full force onto his stomach and cries, “A-Xian, don’t be mad!”
The sheer force of her pounce knocks the breath out of him. The resulting pause is just long enough for Jiang Cheng, who up to this point has been laying rather peacefully next to him, to shoot up and demand, “Oh great, what did you do now?”
To be fair, the question isn’t exactly unwarranted. Suibian looks an absolute mess: twigs stuck in her fur, dirt smeared across the white fluff of her underbelly. She’s panting up a storm, little heh heh heh gasps that haven’t edged into her normal high-pitched laughter. When her ears press back against her head, she could almost pass for pitiful.
“Bichen hates me.”
Wei Wuxian’s first thought is Why would Lan Zhan’s daemon hate you?, but it’s followed quickly by remembering exactly where he is, how little trouble he’s caused today, and the fact that he hasn’t seen Suibian for a few minutes.
A grin spreads across his face.
(Or: The most important name a cultivator will ever pick isn’t for their sword. It’s for their daemon.)

(This fic was inspired by a gifset by tumblr user lucasbryants, which can be found here: http://lucasbryants.tumblr.com/post/31054483078. It was written, and is set, after 'Avengers' but before 'Iron Man 3'.) No AI was used in the writing of this story, although one is the main character.
