Summary
With a gurgled scream he's tossed back into the ocean. The waters rush to embrace their stolen child, but now, instead of their enclosure being a comfort, it's suffocating.
He thrashes, desperate, trying to swim but... but he can't.
Panic and fear washes over him as he slowly starts to sink to the bottom of the ocean floor, a trail of blood flowing from the spots his fins were supposed to be.
He's a shark mer. He needs his fins to swim, but... but they're gone. Taken. Stolen. Sawed away by those monsters. His fins... are gone.
Dick lets out a terrified shrill as he sinks down, down, down.... drowning.
For years he's been told to stay clear of the monsters above the ocean. Been told how there were humans that wouldn't hesitate to tear his fins off his body. But never in his life had he expected for it to actually happen to him. Now Dick's drowning, unable to move, defenseless, and... No.
No, no, no, no—
There's a something big swimming right toward him.
(OR Bruce Wayne finds a dying, de-finned shark mer and he does what anyone sensible would do: he takes him in and looks after him, all the while wondering if 26 is a bit too young to adopt.)

From a time before evolution trimmed instincts and stilled the body. His ears still moved with every feeling—twitching, perking, drooping—and no one noticed. Not until one night, when his ears sagged low and silent, and the Chain finally realized: he hadn’t been hiding his emotions. They just hadn’t known how to read them.

Navigating trust in a new relationship is hard for anyone, but especially if you're an emotionally stunted hero and ultimate lifeform with traumatised pasts, and ex rivalries to boot.
Sonic and Shadow decide to give partnership a try, having harboured feelings for eachother for years, finally deciding to bite the bullet and "just date already" in the wise words of their friends.
However building the trust and confidence to be vulnerable is hard, but the two will figure it out together.. in these shared moments.

The labor was longer than he had expected. At first Shadow had wondered if this was something to do with him, but he was assured by Amy and Tails (who played midwife and doctor for him given his distaste of hospitals) that some births are simply longer than others. He had to hope they were right, especially when they were assuring him he was doing a great job. Those words didn’t quite reach him until a pair of lips kissed the base of his ear and whispered, “You can do this, Shads. You’re incredible.”
Sonic, of course, had no medical knowledge to speak of like his brother and dear friend. However, he was there for every step...
He cut the umbilical cord and passed her over to Shadow for them to admire together.

At this point in his life, Silver was well adjusted to the ever-changing ways of the future. He full-heartedly believed in the butterfly effect after his experience with Mephiles, so with his constant meddling in past affairs, he expected there to always be something different when he returned to his timeline.
His own memories would alter with each shift of the future, but with careful journaling and open communication with Blaze, he learned to navigate the confusing order of events and understand what was relevant and irrelevant to his life.
But, interestingly enough, no matter what occurred, whether it be past or present, he could never remember his childhood. It was a blank chapter in his life he desperately wanted to fill. No one around him had any answers to help either.
His whole past was a complete mystery.

It had been over six months since the last time they had arrived at Sky’s home. He had found himself missing the lack of rain and the open endless sky that encased the entirety of Skyloft. Up there, the moon and sun were so close he could almost touch them. On the surface, however, it was the opposite. He could barely even see the moon on most nights.
But now that he was back here, all the waiting had been worth it.
