Summary
Their bond, ever since Obi-Wan had gone to the Halls of Healing, sits eerily silent at the back of his mind; mute in a manner it hasn’t been in years, maybe ever. Anakin hasn’t touched it since the—diagnosis. Obi-Wan keeps running careful fingers over it, wondering if he’ll feel anything. He never does. With Anakin’s side of it so tightly shut, the once vibrant connection is void of—anything; nothing there to even give him a slight zap at the contact.
Obi-Wan has never considered himself a masochist. Now, a little pain is lightyears more preferable to the dead nothingness that’s constantly lurking around his connection to Anakin.
OR; Obi-Wan gets himself cursed and makes it everyone’s, but mainly Anakin’s, problem.

But Anakin can seduce him. He's very desirable, everyone thinks so. And with the war buffeting them about around the galaxy, he can't take the risk of his master not knowing they're meant to be together. Not when one of them could die any day.

Of all the things he had expected to find inside, a compass had not been one of them. It was a beautiful object, old-style, and made of a heavy gold-plated metal the same colour as the little box. Except, it was faulty. In hyperspace, magnetic fields were disrupted, so Anakin had expected to see it spin wildly on itself. Instead, the red-painted magnetic arrow pointed to an imaginary northern hemisphere on his right, where Obi-Wan was sitting.

“I can’t do this anymore,” Anakin croaked, using the back of his mechno hand to dry some tears still streaming down his scraped cheeks.
Of all the things he had expected Anakin to say, that certainly wasn’t one, but it didn’t take Obi-Wan long to figure out what it meant—they had had similar conversations before, just as tearful, whenever one of them reached what seemed to be their final breaking point.
“You’ll be fine,” Obi-Wan said, his chapped lips stinging when he stretched them into a tentative smile. “You’re stronger than you think, Padawan mine.”
“ My hair is falling out, Obi-Wan, ” Anakin replied, his strained voice cracking on the consonants of his former Master’s name. Then he chuckled, hysterically, and pinched the bridge of his nose as more tears gushed out, mixing with the snot smeared above his mouth. “How is any of it going to be fine?”

The smart thing to do would be for Anakin to cut his losses, save himself the embarrassment, and break up with Obi-Wan now, before they even had a chance to get started. Beat the Christmas rush, as it were.
But then, Anakin had never been particularly smart when it came to matters of the heart. His broken marriage was evidence enough of that. “I still owe you that dinner,” he said.
Anakin Skywalker, twenty-five-year-old PhD candidate and recent divorcé, is putting himself through school by TAing a course for new master’s degree applicants. His neediest student is Obi-Wan Kenobi - sixteen years his senior, also recently divorced, and a little miffed at having to ask someone barely older than his nephew for help uploading a PDF.
At least, that’s how it starts.

Summary
Anakin, it’s okay to cry, Obi-Wan tells him gently through their bond. It’s okay to feel upset and sad. Anakin just glares at the white blankets in stubbornness, willing himself to not give in, but eventually he can’t see through his tears. Come here, Padawan, Obi-Wan says, and then he’s bringing him into his arms again and Anakin finally lets loose, sobbing against his Master’s chest as he lets out everything he feels. Obi-Wan stays still while he does so, rubbing over his back with one hand and staying near him in the Force, and Anakin goes limp into it, relishing the rare feeling of being so close to Obi-Wan even in his distress.
(Or, after an accident that leaves Anakin and Obi-Wan relying on their bond to communicate, their fragile relationship grows and possibly becomes something even more.)
