His eyes lock onto Hob’s with intent so sharp it’s almost physical. His voice is calm, low, almost conversational, but his meaning lands like a touch on bare skin: “We should go to your flat instead.”
For a moment, Hob forgets how to breathe. There’s nothing casual about it, not with the ribbon still biting pale skin, not with the weight of Dream’s gaze pinning him down, not with the index finger digging into the plush red of his lip. The words carry heat, want, endless inevitability.

Summary
Long ago, the Endless rewrote the laws of the universe when they seized power for themselves. Instead of letting themselves be pushed around by the fates; they decided they would do the pushing. They established themselves as the 'bosses' of the supernatural community. Otherworldly powers ranging from every god ever thought up to Hell itself report to them and vie for their favor and assistance.
When Hob Gadling lost everything, he lied, cheated and murdered his way into Destiny's garden to demand answers, and ended up a prisoner of the Endless.

Summary
While in a disguised form for a waking world meeting, Dream has a chance encounter with Hob Gadling. It turns out Hob is far less inhibited when he isn't meeting his Stranger - and far more alluring.
Then they meet again, and suddenly Dream is tripping and falling into a marriage with a man who still doesn't know who he is - but loves him so dearly.
Then again, and again.
Meanwhile, Hob might be catching on. Dream is not quite so clever as he thinks.

“Dream,” he says carefully, sitting down on the coffee table across from him. It’s new to him still, this name. Pulled from his stranger’s hoarse throat on their way out of the manor. Dream. His poor friend.
Dream looks up at him. His expression is guarded. Wounded. “I owe you,” he says, in his low, sibilant voice, “a boon.”
As a reward for his rescue, Dream offers Hob what he's always wanted most. Dream himself.

Summary
Hob's beloved stranger comes back to him, but he seems... changed. Damaged. Hob wants to help, but it's hard when his friend can barely even admit that he's hurting.
It's hard to come home and find home destroyed, everything you created gone, the pieces you crafted of your own soul turned against you. Dream barely wants to think about it. But if he is ever to create again, he's going to have to let that pain in.

That look trails from Hob's head to his toes slowly, scouring, then back up. Judging. Assessing. "So why do you dog my steps, Hellknight?"

“Yes,” he says. “But—humans, do you have it where you are hungry, and you only remain hungry so long, and then you stop being hungry?” His blue eyes meet Hob’s brown ones, and it feels as though they hold a memory between them of Hob at the old inn, wolfing down food. Do you know how hungry you can get when you can’t die?
“And then it comes back,” Hob says. An unpleasant feeling gnaws at his gut, not unlike the sensation of hunger itself. “But yes, it comes and goes.”
His friend nods. “I have found that after…some time, it is no longer a unique sensation.”
“What does that mean?”
“Do you feel your skin, Hob Gadling? Your bones?”
“No,” he says.
“Hunger, too, can be a part of you,” he says.
