The man scowled.

Aventurine scoffed, tilting his head with a snarky expression. “Oh? So you want to keep up the commoner disguise and make me call you by your regular name? You’re basically telling me that I can use your identity as blackmail, Prin—”
Ratio glared. “I can out you for your offense if you want to try, Aventurine.”

There it is again, that casually spoken ‘we’.
Aventurine laughs weakly, plucking at a blue crayon. “Yeah,” he says. “Yeah, we will.”

Without a contingency to fall back on, Aventurine rescues an orphan from the wreckage of her home-world. Ratio, perceptive as ever, finds out.

Summary
The mental checklist grows and gets revised until Veritas can breathe again and he knows exactly what to do. Satisfied, he throws the sheet back over Aventurine. Shelter has to come first. He can't— won't— leave Aventurine's side until he believes this will be a safe area. The place is too exposed to work for a long term shelter, but it will suffice for now. At least until Aventurine is able to walk again.
One last breath. And now it's time for him to work.
[After the events of Rota Fortunae, Veritas tasks himself with the important mission of repairing Aventurine. But even when the android is back online, there seems to be something wrong with his coding. Will Veritas be able to fix Aventurine before he hurts himself or others?]

Then, as if to take her to her word, Veritas suddenly rolls her hips against her fingers and her body paints a beautiful arch, the sculpture of a goddess caught in ecstasy for her eyes only to worship.

Dr. Ratio is no fool; there's no scenario in which she walks back to her own hotel room uneventfully. But she takes the pair of dice in her hand anyway.
Or, Aventurine and Ratio fuck like rabbits all over the suite because they haven't been physically intimate in months.

What the hell kind of nickname was that? Did this Ratio think it was funny to use her brother’s vices as a term of endearment?
(A vice that Vashara was pointedly trying to ignore. Kakavasha had placed bets in his youth, sure. But now, it seemed everything he spoke about was done with the excuse to make one more bet. They spent hours playing card games, he balanced dice and chips between his fingers with a deftness she couldn’t hope to emulate. It was disconcerting, and, like the absolute coward she was, Vashara acted as if she hadn’t noticed a thing.)
They went back and forth like that for a few more minutes, but the conversation had fizzled out decently fast after that. Ratio had work to do and Kakavasha wanted to keep showing her around, but Vashara had walked away from it with a deep truth settling in her bones.
She, Vashara of Sigonia, hated Veritas Ratio with every part of her being.
Aventurine's sister is alive and is overjoyed to finally reunite with her brother after all these years. She's less thrilled about his choice in partners.

"Few people know how to truly relax," Ratio says, perched on the edge of Aventurine's desk. It makes his thighs double in size. Aventurine's thoughts begin to scatter. "Relaxation is a process. As such, naturally there are practical, step-by-step instructions to achieve it.”
"Right," he says, forcing his gaze away. "My, doctor, could one take a guess and assume that some of the relaxation you're referring to is of the more…” He flicks his fingers. “Intimate kind?”
Something curious happens: Ratio stalls. He averts his gaze as his cheeks dust over with pink.
He recovers quickly, however, coughing into his palm and resuming right where he left off. “It would be inane to exclude the potential of intimacy.”
Aventurine is stressed. The knowledgeable Dr. Ratio offers an expert, thorough, only slightly self-indulgent solution.

Highlighted section from employee profile of AVENTURINE OF STRATAGEMS : “Avgin” means “honey” in the Sigonian language. This is a commonplace derogatory term emphasizing the cunning, persuasive and treacherous nature of the Avgins.
Comment from DR. RATIO : What complete rubbish.
Ratio and Aventurine have gotten closer, and closer, and closer, until something has to give. That something was always going to be Aventurine.
(Ratio would argue that he gave in much earlier, it simply wasn't as dramatic.)

“Why’d you call me a gambler?”
Ratio’s head tilts again. His face doesn’t move much. But Aventurine swears he sees the shadow of something like amusement in his features—wry and private, like he’s smiling at a joke no one else heard.
“I can hear it,” Ratio says.
“Hear what?”
“Every time you shift your weight,” Ratio responds, voice low, “there’s a coin in your coat or pants pocket. It strikes against the lining three times—once when you move, twice when you stop. It’s weighted. Slightly larger than standard-issue credits. Smooth edge. It doesn’t roll.”
Aventurine stares.
Ratio lifts his chin. “It is not a commemorative token. It is not a medallion. It’s the kind used in high-stakes tables. Heavy enough to flip with flair, thick enough to stack without slippage. You gamble. Or you want people to think you do.”
A beat.
Aventurine’s mouth goes a little slack. His tongue clicks against the roof of it, dry. “You heard that?”
“I hear everything,”
Aventurine laughs, but it’s shaky, breathless. “You're unnerving, you know that?”
“I get that frequently.”
