Jin Ling suspects that the esteemed Zewu-Jun is using his uncle, trying to get close to someone he's fond of in lotus pier. Jin Ling, being the great nephew he is, must get to the bottom of it, and expose Zewu-Jun's true intentions to his jiujiu, so he isn't hurt!
Alternatively: Jin Ling is a little too oblivious to whatever is happening, and misunderstands the relationship between Lan XiChen and Jiang Cheng. Convinced that he is the one who's right, he executes a plan, to expose the esteemed Zewu-Jun! - Except, the plan backfires.

There was a saying among the dragonkin of the sea, that their souls would trill with song whenever they were fortunate enough to encounter their soulmates.
It was a tale as old as time, or at least as old as dragonkind had existed. Whispered in hushed, reverent voices, passed on from parents to starry-eyed children during their early years spent in the creches situated at the bottom of the seabed.
As a child, Lan Huan, a water dragon, gets lost and is rescued by a merman, Jiang Cheng. In that instant, he recognises the merman as his soulmate and promises to return to marry him one day. Years later, it is Jiang Cheng's coming-of-age ceremony, and the dragon must beat out Jiang Cheng's suitors to win his hand in marriage if he hopes to fulfill his promise.

His father told him that any show of emotion - whether laughter too sincere or tears that made one's eyes swell - made one weak, but Jiang Cheng quickly made him realise that emotions weren't weak. Under Wen Xichen's gaze, Jiang Cheng grew into a beauty so unparalleled that he held a tight grip over Wen Xichen's little black heart.

He swings it backwards, and stills when it is caught. Slowly, Zewu-jun turns around to find a figure behind him. His head is bowed, and all Zewu-jun can make out is the violet jiaxu-styled robes he wears, the long bangs that drape around his face. He's smaller than Zewu-jun, who is broader than most, yet somehow, the demon is the one who feels as if he's caught—especially when that head is lifted to reveal the stranger's face.
It takes a moment for him to register those features when he had seen them on the face of the young demon slayer in front of him, but they hit him like a punch to the solar plexus. The stranger is beautiful, like a spirit out of the fairy tales mothers like to tell their children, as if he came down from the Heavens himself. Violet eyes are curved with discontent, a surly scowl on that mouth that tries to disguise what looks like grief in those irises, strong brows weighed with irritation. "Lan Xichen," he says.
