Summary
To Peter, the apocalypse began with a deranged old man on an autopsy table.
No one knew what Dr. Heffner had seen when he cracked open John Kramer’s sternum, but the devastation that followed was of a catastrophic level.
Something dark, vile, and corrosive had escaped the elderly man’s body and then spread in every direction like a biblical plague. The rot must have been festering for god knows how long, eating away at the insides of the man until he was nothing more than a husk of poison and undeath. In the end, Kramer was unable to contain his suffering within himself, and he had effectively taken the entire city down with him. Peter thought it was fitting, in a bitter sort of way. The Jigsaw Killer might as well have represented the illness that had been permeating his own withering body.
John Kramer was the cancer.
Or maybe Pestilence himself.
