Summary
Adrien has mastered the art of the smile. Even while his mind is on poor behavior, when he's caught beneath a barrage of unkind thoughts to himself, he's still able to keep his smile. Attend his friends' parties, maintain small talk, get through the day — and hopefully his friends won't realize how messed up he really is.
Everyone is out-pacing him. While he's barely getting out of bed in the morning, his friends are making waves, changing lives, getting engaged.
He can't even get his girlfriend to text him back.
So, sure. Maybe he's not in the best head space right now — but 'suicidal'? Ladybug's certainly just reading too deeply into things. But if her concern for Chat Noir's mental state is enough to get her reaching out, well, he won't turn down the opportunity to chat with a friend. Besides, Ladybug seems to be having a rough go of it, too. Maybe they can help each other out.

The first time Marinette Dupain-Cheng made Adrien laugh, it was like a pot boiling over. It slipped out of him like water. The smile came over his face so easily. Like it had always been there. Even as she stuttered her farewell, even as Plagg teased him through the rain, the words “Marinette” and “friend” fit together without even trying.
Marinette brought an ease into Adrien’s life. A tiny balloon would inflate inside him whenever he caught her small, anxious smile. He loved that she waved at him with her entire arm, he loved that she sped-talked herself into knots, he loved the unexpected yet familiar steadiness that came over her when she stood up for others. He didn’t know how to describe the constant buoyancy that a friendship with Marinette Dupain-Cheng gave him. It was just…nice. It was nice to have her as his friend.

The city had found its hope again.
They had won.
Ladybug had recovered the butterfly and the peacock miraculous; the entire set, minus the ladybug and black cat, was safe and sealed away in her bedroom closet. There were no more akumas.
It should have been cause for celebration.
All of Paris had, in fact, celebrated.
