A building on the other side of the bridge— Point Eychyr, supposedly named after the blood of Tere-Quian G-ds that ran silver and appeared in the shot-up architecture even now, if faded— collapses under cannonfire in a show of splintering and silently plummets through the depths of the city, taking countless droids with it, but never quite enough.
He waves at his men. They go. The fire never stopped but it still feels like it starts anew once they start moving upwards; climbing over stairways and on top of buildings, crawling through the uneven city like a flock of ants.
The droids are sparks of copper in the morning sun.As war inspires its wretched innovation, it also, inevitably, digs up ghosts.

It shouldn’t bother him as much as it does. Shouldn’t have him sweating through his third pair of scrubs, shouldn’t have his head aching so fiercely. He’s used to it, after all. The urgency with which everyone works, the sorrow that clings to the ceiling tiles, the hospital soaking up grief in greedy pulls like a sponge absorbing water. And it never seems to leave— that grief. Just retreats to the background as white noise. As static.

Ahsoka dropped on the sofa as she began speaking. “Master, I don’t know where Anakin is. I can’t feel him, it’s like he’s just cut off our bond,” She rambled. Obi-Wan’s face went blank. His shoulders dropped, and lips parted ever so slightly. “And I had the worst dream, I think someone died but I can’t really… Can’t really remember it. Maybe that has something to do with it?”
Slowly, painfully, Obi-Wan made eye contact. There was something piercing in the way he was staring at her. “Dear one.” He kneeled in front of her, the first of many signs that something was wrong in ways Ahsoka couldn’t even imagine.
