Dick ignores him, continuing to stare out the window. A chickadee perches on a tree branch to preen its feathers.
“I made some calls this afternoon. I’ve got the best people money can buy working on this. With a few years of physical therapy, you should be close to back at full mobility.” When Dick says nothing, Bruce moves to stand between Dick and the window, blocking his view. “I understand that what you’re going through is difficult. I get that. But I need some kind of feedback, here.”
Dick snorts, turning his venomous gaze to Bruce’s stupid face. “Yeah? You had no issue making my decisions for me before.”
Bruce scowls. These past days seem to have aged him ten years. “I’m not arguing with you about this. Leslie cleared you to go home on Tuesday. You’ll need to take it easy for a few weeks while the site heals, but it will do you good to be home. Your siblings are excited to see you.”
“I’ll bet they’re jumping for joy,” Dick says sarcastically. “Forgive me if I don’t join in.”

Carmy swallows. He wants to explain it: that he knows. That he’s good at this. That it’s not his brain that’s falling apart, just his body, just his hands, just his family, just his life. He can’t get the words out. They sit at the back of his throat and Carmy swallows them because he already knows that they’re shattered, and he refuses to sound like a fucking second grader in front of Chef.
“Berzatto, either everyone’s hallucinating or my sous is fucking up his recreational drug usage,” he says. “The first would be a medical miracle. The second would be a Tuesday.”
OR: In the weeks following Mikey's death, Carmy's sleepwalking gets worse. When he ends up outside of the restaurant on his day off, things get unbearable.

She shrugs like Dream asked the stupidest question in the world. “Dying means when your body stops working. When your heart stops beating, and you stop breathing.” The duh at the end of the sentence is unsaid.
“Exactly,” Dream says, “but it is less crude than that. Death is all-encompassing, like slipping into a warm, kind embrace. You might feel afraid,” He leans forward, the toe of his boot touching her shoe, “But Death is sweet and gentle, And if you’re scared, she’ll hold your hand all the way.”
“Oh,” a lock of hair falls into her face, “like mummy? She holds my hand after I have nightmares.”
Her child-like acceptance is almost devastating, and his heart weeps. “Yes,” he says, “like mummy.”
