He could feel L’s laugh, low and bitter, rattle in his throat. “Are you going to do it, Light-kun?”
Light blinked. “Do what?”
“Kill me. Prove your point. Assert your authority. Finish your thesis. Or—” L pulled him closer, teeth grazing Light’s earlobe like sin— “is this your way of delaying the inevitable?”

If time is running out as quickly as L believes it is, he will conserve all the will he has left. Will dismiss every memory of kindness, sweetness, fun, hatred, and disgust.
Light leans in a few inches, and L raises an eyebrow, glaring at him and wanting badly to kick him away.
“L,” he rustles, and it’s autumn leaves on the London streets, hot chocolate at Wammy’s, too many fond memories to count. “I want to take you somewhere.”
L half-asks, “Is that so."

He speaks with his eyes shut, thinking of distant things, and sleeps with his whole body beneath the blankets. When he pulls out his pen to kill, he twirls it twice, then falls silent as he scrolls through pages and pages of information, making his judgements.
