Vox wasn’t naive. She knew exactly the kind of person Val was—and hey, that was also exactly why she’d chosen him, wasn’t it? He was interesting, and more than that, he was an investment. A temperamental hedonist with a vicious cruel streak whose mood could change in an instant; a creative visionary with terrible business acumen; a manipulative asshole who somehow had emotions so painfully transparent he was incapable of telling a convincing lie—at least to her. He was also, to her great regret, irritatingly funny and charming. But when it came down to it, it didn’t matter how he treated anyone else, only how he treated her.
And for some reason, Val got her. She kind of hated that she didn’t hate him.

Summary
Friday nights had always been fun – what wasn’t there to like about them? The week was done, you were free from the daily grind for an entire weekend – and in Vox’s case, Fridays usually equated to going out to a bar with his work friends, which meant he was spared the catty comments that would inevitably end up getting shot his way when he spent his time at home.
That was when he was alive, of course.
Being in Hell hadn’t really changed his opinion of Fridays, even though the working week was more of a holdover habit from before sinners got down here – it wasn’t like bars or clubs were only open Friday nights or weekends, or anything like that.
No – the main reason Vox still really liked his Fridays was because he got to go out with Alastor on Fridays.
