“Dean.” Someone says, loud and breathless.
Dean turns around. There’s a kid standing there, looking at Dean, then at the girl. He’s tall—Dean doesn’t often have to tilt his head up to look at people but he can tell he will for this guy—with shaggy brown hair and wide eyes. Dean looks at the blonde girl next to him.
“Sweetheart,” Dean says, raising his eyebrow. “You are way out of this guy’s league.”
Or: After a witch hunt, Dean is cursed to lose his memories of Sam. With Sam gone at Stanford, Dean doesn’t even notice. Sam does, though.

But wait, there's more! Stripping the boys naked and displaying them like erotic art is only Phase One of his deranged plan to force them to admit they're in love with each other. Needless to say, Crowley's diabolical matchmaking scheme has absolutely nothing to do with indulging his own fantasies about the brothers shagging like animals in heat. Oh no, he's doing it all for the boys who aren’t amused by his efforts, until they are. Thank God for Crowley. Or Rowena, though she insists that her son was hatched from an oversized egg.

But that’s when he notices them: the rings.
The shining knickknacks on the table to Sam’s left aren’t just pieces of bargain-bin estate fluff. It’s jewelry. Now that Dean’s moved away, a shaft of light falls right onto the table, reflecting light directly into Sam’s vision. He blinks away the bright spots, and there they are. Sitting innocuously on the edge of the table closest to him.
Later, it will feel like fate. Right now, the feeling is inexplicable, as Sam’s burgeoning sentence dies on his tongue.
Or: After Chuck has been defeated and life is as good as it's ever been, Sam impulsively buys a pair of rings at an estate sale. Dean starts acting strangely.
