You don't get much time to brood on it, because out of the corner of your eye you catch Jules shifting in her seat, arm dropping casually down to dangle at her side, and she's holding—a truffle, the fancy kind Mother keeps in her cupboards and hardly ever serves to guests. You'd served them up, mouth watering, knowing you'd be lucky to get a taste off someone's fingers, and here she is, offering the whole thing.
