There’s a somewhat long stretch of silence, Joswen trying to decide if he wants to admit it- and Zevran holding his breath, terrified for the man he abandoned. This is his fault, isn’t it? Of course it is. “I can barely see my right foot.”Zevran feels cold. Like he’s been dunked in freezing cold water, like- it’s filling him up and making him ache, and Joswen feels.. desperate. Neither of them like this, this.. distance.

And hard curiosity, as well as pity, turns into.. an unreadable amalgamation, as Zevran realizes who he just saved. Who he just watched pry their own eye out, because a blood mage was too scared to ask who their sudden intruder was, what their intentions were- who he let get attacked, wanting a bit of a show because how was he supposed to know that’s who was under that hood, especially from so far away?
They both feel nauseous. They both feel terrified, and guilty, and sickening, they both feel like the most hideous monsters in the woods right that moment.
Zevran drops the blade and Joswen drops his head.

After Zevran left wordlessly to deal with the Crows, Joswen was left to deal with the Mage-Templar war on his own. He happens to come across the wrong camp while trying to find his own place to stay, and an off screen.. disagreement between him and the apostate blood mage ends with someone losing an eye, and Zevran purposefully being a little too late.

She let go of my wrist and I.. could breathe. I could finally breathe, and I pulled my hand back- keeping it close to my chest as my mostly unharmed one acted as a sad sort of shield. I’m pitiful. I’m positively pitiful, standing in some filthy alleyway- burned, emotionally and physically.
