But dry heaving sucks, and Adam feels tears spring in eyes out of synch with the jumping of the muscles in his lower back. It doesn’t stop, not even when Ronan appears, one hand smoothing Adam’s hair back from his forehead, the other rubbing circles on his back.
Fuck. Adam had been trying to not wake Ronan up. He’s been worrying so much.
“Ugh,” Adam gets out, when it’s over. He goes to stand, and Ronan’s hands ease the process, make sure Adam is steady on his own feet. He’s not. Ronan’s hand remains tight around Adam’s waist, helping Adam stay upright as he swishes some water around his mouth and spits. Adam doesn’t protest Ronan all but carrying Adam back to bed.
“This appointment is gonna be a shitshow,” Adam mumbles. “I haven’t, like, slept all week.”
“It’s gonna be okay,” Ronan says. “Maybe it’s not as bad as we think.”

“I think I’ve got the timeline now,” James says. “The previously unexplained hospital stay happened several days after Kevin approached us about the transfer. My guess is it took a bit of time out of the… environment… of the Nest for his body to really start feeling the high sugars. And with the state of his injuries, I can’t imagine discerning one pain from another was possible.”
“It’s insane. Everything about it makes perfect sense and none at all. I keep trying to find the words but the only thing coming to my mind is just ‘what the fuck’ on repeat?”
“The more I find out about Edgar Allen, the angrier I get,” Rhemann confesses. “I’m just relieved that Neil dragged him here when he did.”
“Jean’s not,” Jeremy says immediately. “He has creatively threatened his death multiple times.”
“No, I don’t suspect he is,” James says sagely. “But it doesn’t matter, because he’s here to be angry about it.”

Summary
The frustrating part about it is that he almost makes it to the end. They’re inside of the two minute warning, and the remaining time is a formality at this point. Utah has no hope of closing a fifteen point deficit, and Jean is actually shocked that he hasn’t been pulled yet to give the sophomores some more experience on the court.
All Jean knows is that one second he is passing the ball halfway across the court to Min, and the next he is staring at the bright lights of the Sunshine Court, and the blurry orbs dance slowly in front of his eyes, shining so brightly that it burns. Jean thinks he knows what this is already, and he rolls over onto his knees to lessen the brightness, and when he feels nausea roll in his stomach and a firework of pain explode in his forehead, it’s confirmed.
He has hit his head, and there is no way that he isn’t concussed.
(alternatively titled: jean tries to hide a concussion and it definitely goes well)

However, none of that changed the fact that Jayce had spent years watching his partner’s health deteriorate. He’d washed blood out of countless shirts, towels, and handkerchiefs. He’d sat in countless stale rooms waiting alone, speaking with doctors, and staring at the seemingly lifeless body of the man he loved. He’d held Viktor’s head as he gagged up nothing but stomach acid, clutched his trembling, bone-thin form to his chest until the pain ebbed.
So it was only natural that since this morning, when Jayce had woken up to an empty bed and sneezes echoing from the kitchen, he’d been worried."

Summary
The push and shove and violent collision of bodies on the court feels just as normal to Jean as breathing. He tolerates the small touches his team gives him, high fives or pats on the shoulder passing by. But, even when benign, lingering touches, the suffocating heat of a body next to his, or the drag of breath against his skin, brings bile to the back of Jean’s throat and an overwhelming need to claw off his skin that Jean is not great at resisting.
Jeremy, though...Jeremy touches Jean like he is something to be revered.
Or an introspection on touch. Technically a missing scene from Trials but easily read as a one-shot.
