“Mr Tartt? Wake up, sir. We're here."
Jamie’s startled awake by a polite voice and he sits up, rubbing at his eyes blearily as he looks around to get his bearings.
'Here' turns out to be the players' car park at Nelson Road. Jamie's in the back seat of a car — not his car, it looks like an Addison Lee or something — and the voice speaking is the driver, looking back over his shoulder from the front seat.
“I don’t… I don’t understand,” Jamie says. “What am I doing here?”
The last thing he remembers is inviting the pub lads — Baz, Paul and Jeremy — back to his hotel room for more drinks from his minibar. And then Jeremy had pulled a bag of magic mushrooms from his pocket. Usually Jamie wouldn't, not during the season, but those things are barely detectable anyway, and seeing as how he wasn’t going to have to deal with team medics any time in the foreseeable future, he’d accepted one.
“I don’t really understand it myself, to be honest,” the driver says, but he looks a lot less confused than Jamie feels. “I was sad to hear that they were loaning you out for a bit."

Nothing had happened, is the point. Nothing had changed. Nothing that would explain why he’d had to choke down his dinner, had only managed part of it in the end, left the half-eaten remains to go bad in his kitchen sink.
Nothing had happened that would explain how when he’d gone to get undressed for bed that night he just… couldn’t. How the thought of taking off the heavy sweats he’d spent the evening in felt unnervingly like peeling off his own skin. How he’d crawled into bed still fully clothed, still cold, had curled into a ball, tucked deep under his duvet. How he’d just… gone.
Nothing had happened that would explain why he was still curled into that ball, still fully clothed in the dark all those hours later. Still awake, still gone.
He’s cold.
In which Jamie has a very-bad-brain-day and Roy tries to help.
AKA: ‘I feel like I’ve lost my wings Roy’: but make it much, much worse.

Basically what it says on the tin: fix-it for the 3x12 bar scene and, mainly, Ted’s 3x11 advice to Jamie and that apparently-meant-to-be-happy montage moment with Jamie and his dad. (Which we stop from happening in this story.)

This is not fic! This is a non-fiction resource. I hope this resource will be something that is useful to anyone in this fandom who either wants to write fic from the POV of any one of Ted Lasso’s British characters and is not British themselves, or wants to read and write fic and, like Ted, knows nothing about the ins and outs of football and the Premier League.
I've helped a number of viewer friends and writer friends with some of these things already, and I’ve also done extensive research for my own fics and had really positive responses to my author notes, so I thought it might be helpful to compile and share some details regarding Britpicking, British culture and football itself for anyone who wants to make use of this resource, either as a viewer, reader or writer!
16.11.2022: Latest update - England International Duty and the 2022 World Cup. Part one of a long update about players' potential roles in the World Cup and playing for a national team in general. Very Jamie-centric, so mainly about his future England career, but a few other details for others included, as well as some basics on the current controversy and how to potentially write around it.

Jamie lets out a small laugh at the bluntness of a tipsy Colin — he could rival Jan Maas’ bluntness if drunk enough. “Er, yeah, they’re from top surgery, y’know, to remove me–” he gestures at his chest, hoping they’ll understand.
“Did it hurt?” Colin asks.
Isaac knocks him upside the head. “Course it hurt, you fuckwit, don’t ask stupid questions.”

Summary
“I don’t want to see him again,” he says, hoping that leading with the part he knows Ted probably won’t have an issue with might make the next bit less difficult, “and I know you didn’t say that I should, but I also don’t… I tried, and I don’t want to forgive him neither. And that one you did say I should do, and I know you said it was for me and not for him, but it still feels like- like saying nothing he did mattered."
Jamie takes Ted's advice to heart - he forgives. Or he tries to. But it doesn't make things better. It doesn't free him from anything, and the text he sent his father makes everything so much worse, even though it hasn't been answered yet. When Jamie reaches his breaking point, he goes through a series of three conversations, seeking help determining whether something is wrong with him, whether it's okay to not forgive, and whether it's okay to decide that he's done trying.

He’s not moving, not shying away or trying to get Roy off him, making no movement to break the grip on the front of his shirt, but he’s shaking. There’s a determined frown on his face, his hands are held with a tense deliberation at his sides, but Jamie is shaking.
Jamie is shaking, pretty fucking hard, as he repeats himself, saying, “I know you’re not gonna hurt me.”
Which is the moment that Roy has the sudden and horrifying thought that, fuck, he doesn’t believe that, does he, and he lets go like he’s been burnt.

There are about a thousand things Georgie’d like to do with her incredibly rare Saturday off rather than take the train down to the City of Manchester Stadium to watch thousands of people file in to see a football match she can’t afford tickets to, but Jamie stands before her with his hands clasped under his chin giving her big puppy dog eyes and saying please, please, please, Mum, I just want to go see, and how the hell is she supposed to say no to that face?
City’s playing Chelsea today, which means they’re in the same city as Roy Kent, and the opportunity to maybe glimpse him in person is just too tempting for Jamie to pass up.
