He especially doesn't mention the part where Grand Enchanter Orsino and a good chunk of the Circle mages survive the chaos and make it out of the city safely. He also conveniently leaves out the part where Hawke knows about - and fully supports - Anders' plan. Oh, and he doesn't add the bit about Hawke and her friends boarding Isabela's ship to escape the smoldering remains of Kirkwall, either. So much for 'the whole story'.
