“When did you stop hating me?” That’s what she says, but he knows what she’s really after is when he fell in love with her. She still doesn’t believe him, he figures, probably wonders if he even knows what love is and that’s frustrating but maybe…fair.
“I dunno.” He shrugs, feeling a little exposed just thinking about how to answer it honestly.
“Oh.” She looks away, but he feels the radius of her disappointment.
“It wasn’t like a lightning strike or anything,” he quickly adds, immediately frustrated with himself for not taking the out. “Crept up, ya know, like fuckin’ mycelium.”
She snorts. “Are you comparing your feelings for me…to fungus?”

Just because the show did not (and likely will not) further explore the wonderful dynamic they introduced in 15x08 does not mean we end it with whatever the hell that was in 15x19. Instead, I give you this: A post-canon fix-it dedicated the most emotionally mature, healthy relationship in the history of the SPN canonical universe, between the archangel Michael and Adam Milligan.

This is Steve and Danny facing up to what it really means when they say 'I love you'.Tani glanced between them, reading the room a little more and worrying slightly. "Wait, you guys are both… because I kind of assumed you were right off the bat. Then Grover said I was wrong and I figured, well he's known you longer. But Junior and I were talking and he mentioned that the walls were kind of thin at your house…" Junior was wide-eyed at being brought into it and seemed to move his hands as if to shush Tani but it was too late.
"Steven?" Danny asked almost sweetly, which was an indicator that Steve should be wary. " The walls are thin?"
"I forgot about that," Steve said, contrite.

Ivo throws out his hands in the direction of Stone in front of him, then jerks backward when his hand sweeps right through him. He stares at the spot on Stone’s chest, then reaches out again to confirm his hand cannot meet flesh in any way. “For how long!?”
“I cannot know,” Shadow says, markedly dour, and looking over at Stone, as well, with a slight pinch and release of his brow. “The last time was a few weeks.”
“Augh!” Ivo says, bending down deep, then crossing his arms tightly over his chest. “Useless!”
