Summary
“I was going to take you up to the observation dome, but I guess there isn’t any point in keeping you waiting.” Lister agreed. “It’s been wearin’ a hole in me pocket anyway.”
“Lister? What are you doing?” Rimmer stammered, turning deep red in contrast to his shiny blue holo-uniform.
Ignoring him, Lister pulled the box from his trouser pocket and held it up. “It's a holo-ring.” He explained, opening the box and showing it to Rimmer. “It’s made for holograms.”
The ring shone and flickered as Lister held it out towards Rimmer.
“Marry me, Rimmer.” He said simply.

Viktor, for example, likes to wind down with a hot bath.
Jayce likes to show up unexpected at Viktor’s door with wine from the party he's supposed to be at.
Together they've figured out how to re-write the rules of reality; maybe now they can figure out what they mean to one another.

A lazy smile spreads across Viktor's face. "Jayce," he drawls, his accent thicker than usual. "You came to . . . to rescue me from . . . boredom, yes?"
"Uh." Jayce blinks. "I mean, I guess? You're acting a little weird, V."
Viktor leans closer—too close—bumping their shoulders together. "A little weird?" he parrots, raising his chin to meet Jayce's eyes. "How so? Enlighten me, Talis. Your diagnostics are always . . . thorough."
"Drunk," Jayce deadpans. "You're drunk, Viktor."
At an after-party, Viktor drinks a little too much. Jayce helps him home, not expecting a confession.

Crowley grins in a way that’s entirely mocking. “You miss your tatty waistcoat. And your plaid bowtie.”
Aziraphale bristles weakly. “My waistcoat isn’t tatty. It’s vintage velvet.”
Crowley’s grin melts into something fond. It warms something inside Aziraphale that he thought he’d lost forever, staring at Crowley in wonderment.

"Really," Crowley says, and laughs, sharp and mean. "They gave you the job and not the authority to run it? Well, isn’t that a surprise. If only someone had told you."
"That's not how these things work! It's just—slow going, is all. Change takes time, Crowley."
"Sure, yeah. Climb your way up, but not too much, ey?"
"It's not about me," Aziraphale says, snappy, in that holier-than-thou voice. Crowley smiles mirthlessly, bares his teeth.
"No, you're just a tool for the greater Good, are you. How's that working out, d'you think?"
"Swimmingly, actually. The Metatron really appreciates my suggestions." He smiles—soft, wondrous, almost disbelieving. Crowley wants to scratch it out of his face. Wants to shake him until he comes to his senses and drops to his knees and begs him—
"I always knew you were naive, but not this much," he hisses. "They're going to chew you up and put you through the grinder until you can't take it anymore and then, when you finally, finally snap, they'll cast you down like they did the rest of us."
Aziraphale's eyes flick down once—to his mouth, Crowley realizes, and abruptly steps back, face prickling with shame. Shame, him. Imagine that.

“I understand if… well, I have quite cocked things up, as it were.” Crowley barks out a laugh.
“Understatement of the century.” Aziraphale taps him on the chest. Crowley wobbles.

What an awful thing, to be an angel so terrified of the unadulterated love pressed to his lips that he rejected the frightened, vulnerable heart Crowley offered to him. Aziraphale wishes he could go back in time and stop himself, but all he can do is plead for forgiveness.

Or, two years after things fall apart, Aziraphale shows up at Crowley's doorstep without his memories. The easy part is getting it back, the hard part is getting them back together.

Summary
In 1689, Hob Gadling and Dream meet once more, after Hob has lost everything. That night, their meeting goes on longer than expected when the conversation turns to what it means to live, to lose, and to be the fathers of dead sons. Unable to bear the thought of sending a man who so echoes Dream's own grief back into the night alone, Dream breaks his own rule and invites Hob to stay with him for a time, at least until he can get back on his feet.
The story of two grief-stricken, divorced, and widowed fathers to sons they lost too young truly seeing one another and there, at their lowest point, doing their best to put themselves and each other back together.

The absurdity of the sentence doesn't seem to resonate as he scrawls "Dream of the Endless, Likes and Dislikes" in careful cursive across the top of a page.
