They must cling to each other like a lifeline, despite it being foreign to both of them, because this wasn’t a team building exercise. In this world, working together was akin to survival.

He's learned to track probabilities, of course. When the marshy battlefields grow cold with bitter frost, his joints will ache all evening. When the recoil of his gauntlets starts popping his stitches, each scar will scream like hellfire the next day. If word comes that the sergeants aren't circulating barracks that night — which they rarely do anymore, as the pool of soldiers shrinks and each scrap of flesh is needed for far bigger tasks than dorm checks — then Katsuki can reliably sneak out to the weapons lab to make a few unauthorized suit modifications… and steal a few unauthorized glances at the only other asshole in there before dawn, jerry-rigging new tricks into his own tech and undoing the latest military software that forces his blasters to shoot fire alongside the ice.
(Bakugou and Todoroki are just cybernetically-modified warm bodies, food for the war that never sleeps. They carve out space for each other when nowhere else will. Even if it means asking Todoroki for help when one too many battles leave Bakugou's hearing destroyed.)

After earning their provisional licenses, Class 1-A is assigned to a month-long field mission to locate the League of Villains’ new hideout in the Shirakami Mountains. The task is simple in theory: map the area, eliminate possibilities, and report back. With few students being capable of matching Bakugou’s power, he is naturally paired with Todoroki for the semester.
The mission goes wrong when suddenly Todoroki and Bakugou find themselves stranded in the middle of the mountains with no map or any form of communication with the outside world.
Todoroki is an impenetrable ice wall none of the students have been able to break through, including Midoriya. He’s cold, rude, and only speaks when spoken to.
Bakugou never planned on getting involved, but he had never been good at ignoring problems that refuse to explode.Or, Todoroki never rejects his fire, and Bakugou is the first person at UA to get close enough to notice the cracks in Todoroki when they are forced to work together on their mission.
