As his silence deepens, so do the rifts with his family. He’s not helped by the many more sinister theories the people around him assume because of his new temperament.

Reki made sure to keep his smile bright, squinting his eyes to mimic the way his smiles used to reach his eyes. When he was able to smile out of pure, genuine joy, instead of to keep up appearances of just that.
He must have not been as good as he thought he was though.
“Reki…stop that.” Reki’s mother frowned. What is that look on her face? Reki could only recognise it as pity.

Reki and Langa finally made up, but they never properly understood eachother. Reki's jealousy still lingers, his self-hatred didn't disappear, all these emotions Reki thought would go away after making up with Langa stayed and maybe even got worse. Resulting in Reki using unhealthy coping mechanisms to cope with his feelings.
Langa is falling in love with Reki, while Reki experiences his messy emotions.
It doesn't take long before everyone else begins to notice the crack in Reki's facade. Reki is now a hollow shell of what he used to be— happy and bright. Reki just can't seem to do it anymore, will anyone save him? Can he save himself?
In which: Reki goes through jealousy and depression and uses unhealthy coping methods, the people around him begin to notice and worry about him. They all desperately want to help him, but again, Reki self sabotages. He pushes them away because he doesn't know what to do when they get too close— when they see how vulnerable he is. So now what does he do when they don't leave after he pushes them away?

If he just continued on the street he was on, he would be home in less than thirty minutes, but if he took the route with the bars, it would tack on another ten or fifteen minutes. He had school later that day and he planned on meeting with Langa a bit earlier than normal so they could visit Shadow’s flower shop before school. And obviously, he had the threat of his sisters to think about.
So really, the answer should have been obvious.
Reki found himself turning right and towards the loud music anyway.
He had no real reason other than boredom. Plus, he missed seeing other humans. Maybe if he was lucky he could see a fight break out or a really bad karaoke session.
or
Reki is in the wrong place at the wrong time and Adam takes advantage of that. Things only spiral from there, but they do get better. Reki's family, blood and found, will make sure of that.
