Reyna glanced over. “Who’s on the phone?”
Sage covered the speaker. “Jett.” Then she returned to the call. “Sorry, Jett, I-”
“She’s with me,” Reyna cut in smoothly, snatching the phone from Sage’s hand. “We are going on a date.”
There was silence on Jett’s end for half a second before chaos erupted. Sage could hear gasps, a muffled squeal from Gekko, and Skye’s unmistakable cackle. In the background, a distant voice shouted, “Wait was that Reyna?!”

Sage's breath caught as she had to stop abruptly to avoid a collision.
The black barrel of a pistol was pointed at her in the next moment.
“You.” Reyna spat out the word, not taking the gun off Sage.
The empress and the traitor.
Sage tried to steady her breathing while Reyna's cold, penetrating gaze was fixed on her.
And the sights of her gun.
Was this how Sage was going to die?OR: On days long after the Protocol, a brutal war between humans and Radiants started by Reyna has been won by the Radiants. The Resistance is the humans' last hope of standing up to the cold reign of the Radiants in this new world. Sage is known as the traitor who left the Radiants during the war to fight for the humans. After years, she unwillingly ends up in the hands of the vengeful Empress - and finds herself in an absurd imprisonment (including... feelings?) that might end up changing the world.

Her voice is soft in Sage’s ear above the background noise of the fireworks and chatter. Her words are only for Sage, her heart the same. “The world waits for you until tomorrow. Don’t waste the night, hermosa. Nothing exploded as of now. That is plenty for me to drink to.” Reyna proceeds to wave her hand in dismissal as she leans back and Sage sighs. Upon seeing Sage's distrust written plainly across her face, Reyna continues. “For one night, put your trust in me. Enjoy a drink and relax. Forget the rest of the world in need.”
Sage is left considering Reyna’s kind words. She has a good point, although the ache of guilt lingering in Sage’s chest doesn’t entirely fade. “I guess one night cannot be too awful to indulge in…”

Summary

Upon falling in love with Sage, Reyna agrees to ally herself with the monks and their people in exchange for the Sage's hand in marriage. Together the two will travel across the lands and defeat the tyrannical trading company 'Kingdom', in order to find a place they can make their own.

Summary
It's been a week. A very long and excruciating week of Reyna making the same joke, over and over and over again. Meditation could mitigate murderous instincts only to a certain extent and Sage wasn't particularly eager to explain to Brimstone why one of their best agents was found dead in their sleep. Ergo, Sage had to figure out something to make Reyna shut up and quickly at that, before she lost the last ounce of sanity holding her back.
