Summary
Dream noticed the clicks of the lava machines working to cut off the flow when he clock said it was about 3 in the afternoon. When he could finally see to the other side of the lava, his heart rate immediately picked up and the uncomfortable feeling in his head went into hard drive.
He struggled to stand and did not meet the eyes of Sam or fucking Ghostbur.
That should’ve been Dream’s red flag. He should’ve known there and then that something certainly wasn’t right.
His second sign was the barely visible figure stood on the other side of Ghostbur. Someone under a ruse of invisibility. In a moment of observation, Dream knew that Sam wasn’t aware of their presence.

How long had it truly been?
When Dream had woken up, it felt like hours. He still remembered the feeling of Sapnap’s fingers closing harshly around his neck. He’d felt the bruises.
“I didn’t…” to Sapnap’s credit, he did not interrupt. He kept silent. “I haven’t killed anyone; I’ve been here. I just woke up an hour ago, and before that was when you…you almost…Sam had to come in and get you.”
“Dream,” Sapnap said. Dream shivered at his tone. “That was months ago.”

Maybe it was a good thing that Sapnap snapped when he did.
Sam must’ve been paying close attention, because he was in the room not one second after Sapnap’s hands met Dream’s neck. Dream knew that his mouth was moving, saying things he never would’ve said to Sapnap.
He could only hope that Sapnap caught on to what Dream was saying in his eyes.
