He then meets Silver who totally embraces that side of him. His relationship with Thomas crumbles as his relationship with Silver develops.

His bronze skin glowed under the low light in the bar, and he wore a shirt with a neckline so plunging it he might have stolen it from his sister. Silver had seen him looking, and smiled a challenge as he asked what James would like. It was a minor miracle James had managed to say, ‘an Old Fashioned’ rather than ‘you’. They’d flirted as James sipped his drink, getting more intoxicated on Silver’s smile than the alcohol. He’d ordered another, and then somehow found himself locked in the bathroom with that gorgeous mouth around his cock. It was a beautiful night.

When Flint is forced by circumstances to confront his strange fascination with their crew’s new incompetent cook, they develop an unlikely relationship that changes the course of Flint’s war and, inadvertently, his life and heart.
For all of Silver’s scheming, for all his careful balancing acts, it was Flint’s heavy-handed moves that had brought him to this fragile brink. And Flint, whether out of arrogance or ignorance, hadn’t seen it coming.
But Silver had. And he wasn’t going to let it stand.
No more silent swallowing of consequences not his own. No more pretending the captain’s games didn’t leave blood on other men’s hands.
