    Summary

"Gordon isn't here because he's three halls down, hooked up to every machine we can think of just to keep him breathing. They're too scared to even touch him right now. You know why? Because he has so many concussions that his skull started leaking into his brain. Because we pushed him until he broke. That's why you didn't see him out there." Two-shot.

    Summary

Barney first seems rather content laying back and waiting for what's to come, but as seconds pass and no relief comes, he sits up.

“...Everything alright?” He raises a brow, and Gordon sits back on his heels with an expression far too annoyed for what they’re up to.

“...I can’t figure out how to undo your pants,” he grumbles, and Barney finds himself pursing his lips to keep from laughing at the extraordinarily little problem.

    Summary

In City 17, history is a fairytale- rewritten, erased, and rinsed from memory with every glass of water the regime provides. You were born just before the suppression field rose, too late to remember freedom, too early to stop longing for what you never got the chance to have.

Now you work in the Records Adjustment Bureau, shredding forbidden fragments of the past- documents, photos, names, etc... It’s easier than factory shifts or street patrol, but every day feels a little death.

    Still, you listen.

You offer comfort, conversation, silence, anything. Not as an official “side-hustle”, of course. The regime would never officially approve of most of the things you get up to in your little apartment-room. But for a few extra rations- you lend an ear… And for such a small price in return for the feeling of being human again- people come to you.

It was survival. It was routine. It was repentance. It was a regularity.
